So I just picked up this beauty at an auction.
It actually went through the auction a couple weeks ago but the buyer bailed and I got a second chance. It was between this and a Mercedes S600, but the Mercedes went too high for my wallet to reach. It is a 1991 750iL with 120k miles. Drove it about 20 miles home and it runs great besides a shaking over 60(wheels need balanced) and It blew a little smoke under heavy acceleration(hoping its just because its been sitting a while, but expecting the worst.) A few small dents but otherwise very clean inside and out. Just needs a good cleaning. I definitely tasted the German koolaid and found it to my liking. If anyone has experience with these cars or engines I would love some tips.

I'm terrified of BMWs but that is a sexy car. Looking forward to more posts about it.

Despite the complexity, my M3 has been a lot more reliable than my explorer was.

YES MY BROTHER! Welcome to the V12 club. I guess that makes five of us then...

Awesome find! May I request... some interior shots please? Thanks.

You're crazy, but that's awesome. Congrats!

Right now the excitement is overpowering that fear, we’ll see where it lands in a few days.

I’m certainly not experienced enough with them to back up my argument. I think it’s honestly an “inherited” bias - they were the one make my dad avoided at all costs when I was a kid, and this is a man who tried to DD a ‘76 XJS.

I just had to have one just to know what it felt like. Feels prestigious.

Thanks, I drive an F350 for work so parking should be fine.

Awesome! For oem parts for bmw’s I like to use FCP euro, turner motorsports, ecs tuning, and a few other sites. FCP euro offers a lifetime warranty on all parts, which is nice. Bimmerfest is a good resource as well.

I drive an F350 for work so this should be dandy.

I think the problem is that they can be expensive to repair if they break, and it seems people equate expense to unreliability. I did have an $1100 part break on me, but apparently it’s a common fault. Who else makes a V8 that revs to 8300 that you could DD? I sure some people have horror stories, but mine has been pretty solid in the 2 years I’ve thrashed owned it. It at least starts every time I want it to, unlike my explorer, which likes to play at times “am I gonna start today” roulette.

What year, and is it a dually? I had a 2007 F350 for a work truck for a while and I actually really came to like it.
![]() 06/26/2016 at 22:14 |

I hope it’s a powerstroke or V10 ;)
But I was really just making a BMW asshat joke :p

2013 Dually Crew Cab with a tool box bed. Base everything. Not a huge fan coming from a GMC worktruck at my last place, but it gets the job done.

Sadly its a 5.4, I guess I don’t have to use my blinkers anymore either

I’m sure it’ll be fine :) As I told e90, I have an inherited fear but no personal experience. I’d be pretty excited if it was sitting outside my house too.
(Edited because I can't read)

Most are Mercedes though, right?
![]() 06/26/2016 at 22:21 |

Isn’t that from the dual ECU era? The car thinks it has 2 I6's.

There is a little bit of wear on the driver’s seat and armrest but not bad. Found cigarette butts in the ashtray but no burns or odor.

Thanks, feels good.

The back is great for sleeping in at 0400 while the supervisor drives to the well site. My former company had F250s, and that truck was great for blasting down lease roads at 60. You got the diesel?
![]() 06/26/2016 at 22:25 |

Yep, the engine bay looks almost symmetrical with the dual systems. It is one of my bigger concerns about the car though.
![]() 06/26/2016 at 22:26 |

That is in great shape! Just needs a little bit of leather TLC in the back (maybe some saddle soap or something).

What a fantastic machine!

Good to know. I don’t normally get OEM parts but I think it’s probably a very good idea for this car.

5.4 :(, I sleep in the morning, foreman sleeps in the afternoon, works out great that way.

Yeah, I’m eventually gonna detail it in and out and that will be on the list. First time I’ve had leather though.

Thanks! Makes me feel like a 90s executive.
![]() 06/26/2016 at 22:34 |

Its a strength and weakness. 2x the failure points, but if one fails, you still have an I6 to limp home on.

I never used to understand why people liked the diesel, I’m a convert now. That 6.7 is a pretty great engine, it pulled pretty hard, even if I couldn’t push it too much with the electronic tattletale

Fcp is awesome. Check the turbobricks and swedespeed forums for discount codes. I would suggest bmw fanboy sites but i know not which ones have codes.

The diesel makes everything feel effortless. We just had gps/elogs installed last month. I’m scared to see my scores.

No problem. Eurocars have spensive parts. Anything to ease the pain.

My company was really anal about driving. We had to call into a place so they could monitor our trips, one time they told me I couldn’t drive and needed my managers approval so I was like alright I’ll get it, hung up and put that mother fucker in gear and drove anyways.

Ours isn’t that bad (yet). But ours will tell us when we have to take a break and when we are approaching the hour limits since we are DOT drivers. Kinda nice not having to keep a paper log anymore though.

Have you picked out a bankruptcy attorney yet? Or was that included?
![]() 06/26/2016 at 23:55 |

Do you still have the Charger?
![]() 06/27/2016 at 00:08 |

Not yet, on the to do list. Seriously though it was cheap enough that if it dies I can sell it as a non-runner and almost break even.
![]() 06/27/2016 at 00:10 |

yep, and the Cherokee, and a Caprice, and a Camaro, and 3 motosicles
I might just have a problem. Probably gonna sell the Charger now though if this turns out ok.

And IIRC, 2 ECUs operating in tandem, as if each controlling their own I6

Yep. Two S600s, an SL600, an XJ-S, and your 750.
