One of my local police departments replaced three 2013 Chargers with older Crown Vics from 2007-10. I’m pretty sure the Crown Vics came from a neighboring department or were assigned to some special detail where they weren’t driven much, as all of them have under 50,000 miles IIRC.
The officer I spoke with was happy to get rid of his Charger. I would be too, they weren’t the most reliable cars.

What was wrong with the charger?

Cheaply built, reliability issues, shitty V6 (Opinion) and not very durable.

The police spec ones didn’t get a v8?

5.7 Hemi V8 or 3.6 V6

Should have come with a V8

They could have spec’d out the 5.7 Hemi, but the acceleration isn’t really necessary as they have a no-pursuit policy and don’t run code often.

Chargers look pretty intimidating in police spec. But this isn’t what police might be looking for in all places.
Ours drive nearly always with VW Transporters.

Wow, a police department buying used cars is very telling.
My local department just switched from Chargers to Explorers.

Ours has a mixture of vics and explorers. Actually we were one of the first three stations to get the explorers when they came out.
