I’m visiting my mom this week and decided to clean out her car. She lives in the country, an hour from work, 10 miles from everything. Since she’s in the car a couple of hours every day, she has a bad habit of eating while on the road. This is the result after a year in her new car.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Sorry, mom, but that’s just nasty.

I’m usually the one to clean out my mom’s car, too. Although, her’s is usually full of gardening remnants, rather than food remnants.

I spent two hours just vacuuming. Now I have to figure out how to get the spilled cokes/grease/ketchup(!)/nastiness off of the leather. I need to make a run to town for cleaning supplies. Not exactly how I expected to spend my vacation. :(

All that after a year in a car? Fuck, I get more in a month and I rarely eat in mine. Gravel and dirt is everywhere, that's why I have rubber mats, but they only catch so much.

She lives in the country but she has a garage at home and a big parking lot at work. I just can't figure out why she has so much filth in her car. I'm thankful for the mats, but I'm seriously considering buying her a set of weatherbeater mats to get more complete coverage.

Correction: that’s what happens if you eat in your car and don’t clean up after yourself.

Mate that really is nothing compared to what I get to see. I’ve a colleague’s daughter’s car to do on Wednesday (Citroen Picasso) and if it’s 20 times more worse than that I’ll be happy but I know fine well it’ll be a sh1t when I get it.

I used to say no eating or drinking in the car but as I get older I just suggest cleaning it out more often and if you know you’ve dropped a few crisps or something to vacuum at the earliest opportunity.

Drinks however are different. Fizzy ones are out and out banned.

Only one time have I been in a car where I wasn’t allowed to eat as adult. And that asshole had volunteered their car for a road trip, which consisted of being in the car four fours hours on the way there, and four hours on the way back in a single day. If I had known about their stupid rule to save their precious Rav 4 interior, we could have taken my goddam car.

If you have some fancy weekend toy that is pristine, that’s fine. But a DD appliance? I need snacks dammit.

I feel for you. My wife let the kids have food and drinks in her first car. When we traded it in, it smelled of spoiled milk. It always smelled of spoiled milk.

I banned food and drinks from my car. It only needs the occasional vacuuming to clear out a little dust. My wife still allows food and drink in her car. It’s always a mess.

My wife has imy car while I’m visiting my mom. I fear for what I will return to.

Caught by the rules! Hah!

My car is a daily driver, but I still don’t allow snacks. Water is allowed, but no cokes, fruit drinks, etc. If it weren’t wrecked earlier this year, it would still look brand new even after two years of daily use.

Hah! That’s why I eat in my car. Nothing lasts forever and I’m hungry.

I eat in my car some. But my Husky Liners floor mats catch pretty much anything. Now, when my wife and I have our first child, I’ve already laid down rules about which car the kid will sling food in. Hint: Not mine.

What kind of Subaru is it?

Ouch. Milk is a definite no no in the car. If allowed to soak in not only creates a bad milk smell but will start to mould. Which is where Valet Pro Enzyme Odour Eater comes in. Spray (soak a little, not too much), agitate and wet vacuum up. Kills mould, bacteria, smells and removes stains and leaves pleasant smell. My go to for car interiors.

I suspect I’ll be needing it on Wednesday.

Yeah, she let it get bad and since I never drove her car, I didn't discover it until it was well established in the upholstery and carpet. Then the only recourse was to remove the interior.

Man, that would of cost a pretty penny.

That’s the good thing about VP EoE. The longer it stays wet the longer it stays active and kills more as it penetrates till everything dead.

I’ll keep that in mind. I wonder if it’s available in the states.

Fo her car, I did the best I could to clean it, then hid the smell with cinnamon. Then we traded it in.

If you can’t find any. Let me know and I’ll send some over with some CarPro So2Pure (a photocatalyst deoderiser).

No thank you. I've enough to deal with on my own. I had to clean out my wife's car for this trip. I really wish I'd have just taken mine, but she wanted us to be more comfortable. I think it was a sneaky way to get me to clean her car.

I thought my wife would turn a corner after we got her an actual nice car, but alas. ALAS. Although mine aren’t looking too sharp either... damn dog sheds like a [insert insensitive joke here]

I thought my mom would do a better job with this car. It is the nicest one she's owned and the first with leather. She did buy the protection package with heavy rubber mats and full rubber mats for the cargo area. But she hauls her giant dog in it and he sheds hair everywhere. I could have woven a rug from the dog hair I vacuumed out today.

I needn’t of worried about today’s car. Mostly short haired dog hair and some sweets under the removable seats.
