Our trip has finally arrived. 3 of us are taking our dirt bikes to northern Michigan (still in the lower peninsula) and spending 4 days riding across 550 miles of ORV trails. Saddlebags and backpacks will carry our tools, clothes, and other necessities while we ride. Friday we arrive at a friends cabin near Oscoda to spend the night so we don’t have an early drive up Saturday morning. Then we have 2 nights in motels and 1 night camping out.
Our route
My ride Honda 450
Mike’s ride, KTM 350
Jon’s ride, KTM 250
Freakin pumped! Been drinking green tea all damn day for this!

You’ll be just a little bit north/northwest of where some of my family lives. Such a beautiful part of the country during the summer. All my cousins in Michigan ride, most of them having raced enduros since they were old enough to sit on a bike.
I really need to pick up a CRF250 and keep it up there to go riding when I visit.

I've never been on a bike, so take this with a grain of salt. 550 miles seems REALLY far. How do you not want to kill yourself after that long on a bike? And, how awful is this on your body? Not trying to be a downer, I'm genuinely curious.

it is painful, a lot of it is mental though. Don’t get me wrong I’m bringing a big bottle of ibuprofen with me, as are the others. Once you get passed the arm pump (pain in the forearms most people get in the first 30-60 minutes of a ride) then you’re good. Lots of water and food intake, prevent cramping of the legs, keeps energy up. We’re also only averaging 130 miles a day, which isn’t too bad when we have all day to do it.
I have done that distance in 1 day though, well 24 hours 42 minutes 11 seconds to be exact, and I trained for 8 months straight before doing that race across the desert. Here’s my write up on it if you’re interested in the reading

I haven’t really ridden since high school, but it’s not that bad with a teenager body. 5-10 hours blasting through the woods and over jumps was a hell of a lot of fun. I didn’t have an odometer, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we put over 100 miles on in a day.

Looks like a sweet trip! Very jealous!
Quesiton on the Honda. Is that a CRF450? How does it do as a trail bike and how is the maintenance? Been shopping for dirt bikes and see these pop up every now and then.
