8th gen Riv on the FP. Time to celebrate. Dear god I need to respray this thing a different color. I don’t listen to enough pop-country to have a John Deere colored Buick.

I think it just needs more black.
![]() 06/01/2016 at 10:56 |

Or yellow

It’s not really *quite* JD green, but I’m not sure what it actually is. It’s not too far off that early ‘50s Buick green, which is appropriate.

I always had a weird like for these. This and the Reatta.

Fuck that. Seasonal Riviera- give it red!
![]() 06/01/2016 at 11:08 |

Don’t change it. Green rattle-can Riv is awesome.

No.

It depends heavily on the lighting. Sometimes it looks like BRG, but in direct sunlight it is DEFINITELY John Deere.

The Reatta is cool until you drive one. Handles worse than this Riviera somehow, and weighs as much as a LeSabre. I don’t understand. And of course the bleep bloop digital dash was broken on the one I drove.

It wasn’t rattlecan. Green rustoleum through an HVLP sprayer, except it’s chipping so bad I need to do *something* but the rattlecan Hunter Green is a different shade than the gallon-can Hunter Green, so now I have very obvious tiger striping on my driver fender and trunk lid where I tried to do some touching up. Sigh. I’m gonna try rattlecan clearcoat on my trunk lid and see if that magically helps everything blend together.

And yet...
![]() 06/01/2016 at 11:15 |
|
Also.
Also also.
Basically, ain’t nothing wrong with a Hunter Green Buick.
![]() 06/01/2016 at 11:21 |
|
That’s a far “duller” color. Mine’s lighter in shade.
![]() 06/01/2016 at 11:22 |

Yeah, the Rustoleum Hunter Green came out nothing like that Hunter Green. Maybe some clear coat will darken it slightly.

Close enough. Spray Paint Green Riv mmmmm.
![]() 06/01/2016 at 12:01 |

All I want are the bleep bloops. Handles worse than this Riviera because it’s an older version of the same chassis.

safety orange ??
![]() 06/01/2016 at 17:43 |

Now I want to paint a car safety orange. Damnit.

i love the pre-mix colors by rustoleum. tractor supply has some good colors too...... the have good implement paint, like case yellow, new holland yellow, john deere yellow, ford tractor grey, ford red, ford blue, jd green, AND those colors will last DECADES with some surface prep.
![]() 06/01/2016 at 18:47 |
|
they sell the rustoleum in quarts too right?????
![]() 06/01/2016 at 18:47 |

june teenth is coming up........
![]() 06/01/2016 at 19:18 |

Yeah, but then I have to go to my friend’s garage, borrow his sprayer, mix the paint, etc. etc. etc. and it’s still going to have tiger striping due to the way the paint will lay out and the different painting conditions.

Oh my god my eyes
![]() 06/01/2016 at 19:22 |

I rarely find myself saying this, but you should paint it the glossiest damn black you can find with the brightest damn chrome you can find.
![]() 06/01/2016 at 19:24 |
|
paint one panel at a time.... mask them off...... prep the surface, block sand before, spray, after it cures wet sand with 1500....... do everything that you can to make it come out as well as possible.
its a 20 footer now right??? so if its a 10er when you get done, youve made some progress in the right direction, right??
quit trying to come up with reasons it cant work..... come up with ways to make it happen.
![]() 06/01/2016 at 19:28 |

are they rolling back into your skull for joy??
![]() 06/01/2016 at 19:55 |

I think they melted.
![]() 06/01/2016 at 19:56 |

I think it’s more like a 100 footer right now, lol.
The amount of sanding I would have to do to get a decent surface is astounding. I’m thinking of just using some aerosol aircraft paint stripper on the particularly awful areas.
![]() 06/01/2016 at 19:56 |

That sounds awful.
![]() 06/01/2016 at 20:01 |

put a few coats of high build primer then, then block it smooth/even.
![]() 06/01/2016 at 20:03 |
|
yeah, i know its a hot color, about as close as i could get to “supernova orange”
![]() 06/01/2016 at 20:40 |
|
Get chromed
![]() 06/02/2016 at 09:41 |

Black on black - the only color combo for a riviera IMO. I believe that so strongly, that’s the one I got.

Add metal flake. Metal flake safety orange.
Satellites will use you as a reference point when you park. Children will cry when you drive. And not a single person will ever use the excuse “I never saw him” if they bump into you.
![]() 06/02/2016 at 17:15 |
|
funny you should mention that, i was thinking of painting a giant “X” on the roof of my truck, or even a bulls eye. the kind of thing you’d never notice from the ground. something that ought to show up on google maps..... could be fun.
metal flake safety orange might actually cause more accidents........... everyone and their mom would be trying to take a picture or get a better look..... glare for days........ children already cry, stare, point when i drive. parents clutch their kids for safety when i pass.(my trucks are loud).
i am liking the idea even better.
