Someone traded in an i8 yesterday. It’s bad to the ass! It drives so odd but rad! Seeing it parked next to an Exige S (last edition matte black) gets the ol’ brain thinking about 2 different approaches to performance driving.

Definitely the Lotus. I’ve never driven one, but I’d imagine it’s the polar opposite of the i8. The i8 feels way too disconnected

Analogue.

What was the trade-in toward?

I’ll have the i8, only because I’ve seen someone getting in and out of an Exige before, but never an i8.

oh noooooo sir. Both feel extremely good! i8 is a accurate I feel. Once you get the Advans warm on the Lotus doe.... it’s pure magic.

I’ll take the i8 seeing how a Lotus barely comes up to my waist...I can’t imagine trying to bend my way in and out of that car on a daily basis

a new Mercedes CLS class I think
![]() 05/26/2016 at 11:35 |

i8. Its more comfortable and easier to adopt as a daily driver.

that’s true. I forgot about DD abilities

The i8 isn’t bad to drive, it’s just nowhere near as fun as other sports cars. I understand the car’s focus is different, but it’s just not my style. Plus the first time I drove one was directly after driving a Cayman GT4, so that may have ruined it for me...

I struggle in the Z4 lol. It’s down to coming out of the garage once a week

Daily the i8 and track the Lotus. Boom. No other cars needed.

oh dayum! Only Cayman I drove was a ‘09 S, pretty good but dat GT4! Must of been glorious! I still think the Evora 400 is pretty much the best thing ever in history. Someone needs to compare them

I'll take the i8 because I won't fit in the lotus

Standard Elise S3. Open top, low power, low weight, purest feel without the risk of losing your license.

I just have zero interest in the i8. Like none at all so I suppose I’d reluctantly take the Lotus....but that’s to edge case for me, I like to be able to take my cars on longer drives with
some
degree of comfort (it doesn't have to be a lot, but I've gone one longer trip of just 200 miles in an older Elise and I wanted to murder myself). So yeah, I'd just take a Cayman or Vette or something over either of them. Digilog.

once your inside it’s not too bad
![]() 05/26/2016 at 12:18 |

if you put it that way, yeah you’re right. The temptation will always be there in the Exige
![]() 05/26/2016 at 12:19 |

when it comes down to it, Z06 over everything!
![]() 05/26/2016 at 12:22 |

To be fair, if I were in the US with easy access to any number of cheap track days and autocrosses, it would probably be the Exige.

analog all day long. get rid of nannies and make all cars manual and you would have less distracted drivers and texting
![]() 05/26/2016 at 13:25 |

Interesting comparison there. I don’t fit in Elises or Exiges with anything resembling comfort, so the driving experience would be tainted. So unfortunately between the two I’d have to do the i8. But knowing what I know about the way BMW builds cars now, I sure as hell wouldn’t want it in 10 years. I do fit in old 911s just fine though, and they’re pretty raw cars so I’d do a 911 for Exige money.
![]() 05/26/2016 at 13:28 |
|
heck no I also wouldn’t want to own a new bimmer for 10 years lol! I’ll do C6 Z06 for Exige money
![]() 05/26/2016 at 13:33 |
|
Also a good choice. I remember Evo magazine’s review of the C6Z, and their quote was “few cars are as ferocious as a fully lit Z06.”

11/10 would take the Lotus!

In Mexico DF, EVERYTHING is manual. Even the city buses and the tour buses are manual. Trust me, there are still plenty of distracted drivers in Nissan Tsurus and old school Kombi/Beetles wrecking all over the place

ROAR!!!!!
![]() 05/26/2016 at 14:46 |

I’ll take that 212 thanks. Exige would be fun but I would never come close to making it worthwhile, and I have no interest in the BMW gimmick car.

i had a customer at a track loose the aluminum gas cap on one of those. Lotus doesn’t sell the cap by itself, have to get the entire filler tube at $300+ and it’s on back order forever lol :]

Oh, that’s not what I meant. I meant that’s what I prefer.
I’m not sure if this is one of those words that’s different between Canada/US or not, but in any case I use the Canuckistan spelling.

The 212 is great and I even had my hands on the first pre-production models in America, but that X164 tho.
Full size GL goodness (despite all the issues) especially in 550 or 63 trim.
![]() 05/26/2016 at 20:14 |

No kidding. When I upgrade from my 210 eventually I’m going to skip right past the 211 straight to a 212, either 550 or 63.
Those are great too. I just wish the air suspension wasn’t so problematic. Have you checked out the X166 GL550/63? Those are pretty damn nice too, and a little less problematic so far.
