Meet Gibbs, my new rescued retired racing Greyhound. He can probably run faster then your Miata can drive.
Be prepared for Zoidberg levels of Doglopnik when I get back from a week and a half in the Caribbean. I’ll be leaving him with the fosters until we return.

Handsome dog! I have friends who used to have a rescue Greyhound, and they named her Shelby. She was such a sweet dog.

You’ve done a great thing. I’ve wanted a retired racing greyhound for 20 years but I’ve always had a young child in the house and the adoption organizations won’t place them in homes with young kids. Now that my youngest is 5, I might have to start looking again. They are supposed to close the last dog track in AZ soon, and there should be a bunch available.

It’s a heck of a process but so worth it. The dogs are great.

I'm excited to get to know Gibbs better. Like I said, we're heading out of the country but starting in a week and a half he's mine.

It depends on the organization I've found. They were willing to place in a small home but it depended on if the dog was good with it. We have 3 small dogs and 3 cars so finding the right one was the trick.

I’m sure. My Lab was a rescue and it took a bit of time to get everything in order.

You’re a good person for getting a rescue dog.

0-30, for sure. My parents had a whippet once, and I used to take her out for a run down the local dirt back-roads on my bicycle. Well, it was a speed run for me, but just an easy-going stroll for her; every now and again, she’d do a little sprint and whoosh! gone. After maybe a quarter mile or so of stretching her legs, she’d ease off and wait for me to catch up.

Came close to getting a greyhound rescue - they can be so affectionate and calm! In researching the possibility, I heard that they are always a flight risk if off leash, even after owning for years and having success off-leash. Have you heard this? (Ended up with a rescue mutt with a lot of terrier in him.)

Even better: “RascueDawg”

They are very much so flight risk. They see the door as the gate to the track opening too so they get out quick and when they see something they want they'll chase it too.

That is awesome! Can’t wait for the pics.
Will Gibbs do stairs? Just curious.

Pretty dog, we have a husky grey hound mix and he is a wonderful dog. Very friendly. One good thing about grey hounds is that they only need to exercise 30-60 minutes a day and they will sleep the other 23 hrs. Therefore I have he laziest husky in the universe.

Gibbs is great wth stairs. I can barely keep up with him. The other dog we were considering did not do them well.

Also we have an Italian Greyhound so those pictures should be great as well. Dante weighs 15, Gibbs weighs 75.
