Roosevelt Raceway looks like it’d be easy to remake, though the original track has zero elevation changes, so we need an undulating, hilly place to make it more interesting.
I’m still debating on whether or not the ‘36 layout is better, because at how close the corners are set, runoff would be thin. The ‘37 one, however, despite being more open, is somewhat boring.

Looks like the ancestor of the tilkedrome

Those corners are far too open to be Tilkean.

The ‘36 version looks like a brontosaurus flexing and the ‘37 version looks a little like Catalunya.

A Catalunya with a spoon for a Sector 1.
Anyway, which do you prefer?

Catalunya with a spoon, I'm a sucker for fast race tracks.

Me too, but probably add the little triangle from the ‘36 into the last corner of the ‘37, to make a 3-apex corner.

The 36 one is a drift park dream. The picture shows it as way more sweeping than the diagram. Definitely a handling course.

Only if you add a lot of banking to the 180 degree turn that is just inside that last corner and would probably be the end of sector 2/start of sector 3. That way you can take it close to flat out and set up another heavy braking zone for dive bomb passes before the left 180 right before the chicane.

I’ve decided. It’s the one we’re making.
Question is... which place in the US is hilly enough to give the track an extra challenge?

Sierra Nevada foothills.

That looks like a protected area, though. Which particular spot do you think is fair game?

There’s about a 50 mile by 600 mile band of possible locations. Probably near Plymouth would be good. And no, neither of those areas appear to be protected. Just rural.

Map screen? So that I can draw over it and see how it would pan out.

West means flatter, east means more hills . Just scroll around.

Keep it in NY and have it at Monticello.
Or buy 200 acres and a chainsaw in the Catskills.

A nice uphill section of the new track...

Will need some paving and safety walls as well.
