I got the offer today for a Building Engineer position at a Hospital in Dubuque Iowa.
I was getting a bit scared because it’s taken a loooooo-deep breath-oooooong time to get to this point. Almost 2 months since I sent my resume in. It’s base pay is a good bit more than I make now plus it’s second shift so there’s a $1.50/hr premium too.
The best part? I’m no longer Management! I was already miserable living back in Illinois but this job made it way worse. So back to being a worker bee fo’ me!
Relocation is going to be another hurdle but I have until June 20 to find a rental. It shouldn’t be that hard? What makes the Dubuque area ideal for me is that all of the recreational activities I enjoy are within 1 hour of me. Dirt Bikes, Trikes? Several places to ride in Wisconsin and Iowa. Hunting? Everywhere. Camping? Again, everywhere. Drag racing, Road racing? 2 drag strips and one road course within an hour and a half drive..
Sorry.. I’m rambling. But this is the first time I’ve actually been excited and felt “normal” in over a year. One phone call literally dissipated a deep depression in 5 minutes time.
Thinking of depression, I gotta go find my Beer!

I grew up there and know the feeling. It was Colorado time for me, and I don’t think I’ll be back except for visiting.

Thanks! I’ve been trying for several places. This is a good compromise.
I had one lined up in Montana that sounded great. $2000 in relocation assistance and great bennies. But the town turned out to be a Superfund Asbestos site.

I know that feeling. I’ll move West one step at a time. Colorado does call. As does Oregon.
