80,000 miles on a 2007 RX350. Cam timers are failing and engines is already sludging. Just change it.

You mean an RX owner didn’t take care of their car?

How do you clean that off?

Wait, 80k without an oil change?

Reminds me of the 25k CX-7 turbo we got denied warranty replacement on. Lady NEVER changed the oil. It still had the factory filter in it.
She left it sit and rot and eventually it got repo’d.
SO MUCH SLUDGE.

But they said 10,000 miles! Newer direct-injected turbo cars are the worst, they dilute the oil horribly.

“But it’s a Lexus! I bought this so I would never have to worry about it.”
“What do you mean I still have to have it serviced at the proper intervals!? It’s Lexus, it’s not supposed to need service!”
I, for one, welcome our autonomous overlords. I cannot wait for the day that our autonomous cars flash a notification of needing service (WARNING DANGER TO MANIFOLD) across their NAV screens, and when the idiots ignore the warning, the car either stops and calls a mobile repair tech, or drives itself to the dealer to get fixed - with the owner inside of course.

Send a sample to Blackstone with some bullshit interval stats, like 4500 miles. I just want to see if you get your $22.50 worth of four-letter words in their summary.

Pretty much the only thing I actually do on time. Hmm... sad.

As long as the doors remain locked and the person is trapped inside.

Nope. She did the oil change only by a double the miles formula even though she doesnt drive the car that much. So time and miles wore hard.

I prefer the continuous replacement method. There’s always new oil in the Malibu due to leakage...

My fiancé night hve the most cared for RX ever. She went 200 over because of timing even though all I them are highway and she was freaking out haha. She asked daily the week before she got home to make sure I was able to do it.

We’re trying to save her from replacing the engine or a $7000 job. This one's about $4000 or so.

Wait, so what does that mean? How often did she have it changed?

So what this means is that DRIVE YOUR CAR!

She had it changed maybe once a year.

Hmm I should get it done in my Corolla. It’s been at least 3 years and 25k miles. Hmm.

Ugh. Why are people so ignorant of basic maintenance....
![]() 05/12/2016 at 16:22 |

I though people bought toyotas so they don't have to be bothered with changing oil

3/4 of our customers are fantastic at changing their oil. Maintain it and it will run. My LS400 has 296k and our Rx400h has 340k. It’s the 1/4 of our customers whose cars are lucky to see maintenance at all and then are shocked when it breaks like this.

Once a year is quite normal when you don’t drive that much, don’t live in a particularly hot or cold climate and use quality oil. Manufacturers tend to advice an oil change after x miles or 1 (sometimes even 2) years, whatever comes first.

The newer cars with sludged engines say otherwise it seems.

Had a lady that made it 40k in a 2011IS250 with no oil changes before the thing finally went cah-put

Wow that’s impressive.

She went as far as trying to fake receipts from walmart with oil changes, she faxed in with the same exact time 6 months apart for 4 oil changes

Hahahah that’s fantastic.
