Back in February we were told that all of the Japanese Automakers could end up
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
. At the time of that article’s publishing, Japan only had seven automakers remaining:
Toyota, Honda, Suzuki, Nissan, Fuji Heavy Industries, Mazda, and Mitsubishi Motors.
Funny that the most difficult brands to guess (Nissan and Mitsubishi Motors) just became a thing. What are your predictions to get this down to just three large companies?

My vote is that Mazda and Fuji Heavy Industries get together. And either Suzuki can join them or combine with Honda. That would leave 4 separate companies but I think it would work.

I don’t think we’ll get down to three.
I’ll throw Suzuki out of the equation because they don't sell in the US. But, if I have to put them somewhere, I'll throw them in with Fuji Heavy and Mazda. I could see Fuji buying Suzuki, and then Fujuki and Mazda doing a merger for a 50% stock swap. Nissan won't want to take on any more, and Honda and Toyota are too big to merge.

That's quite likely, with Toyota the majority holder of both. Toyota has worked with both, and owns a significant portion of FHI.

Before Mistubishi’s deflategate, I assumed Mazda and Nissan would make a great merger.

I suspect they’ll both be absorbed by Toyota at some point. Both have a lot of financial and business ties to them already, it almost seems like it is just a matter of time.
