Looking to purchase my first jack and I’m looking for recommendations. Don’t want to go the harbor freight route as this is not something I want to go cheap on. Also not looking to spend a ton of money. I think $150-$200 should get me something of decent quality. Need jack stands as well so if anyone has recommendations on that as well I would appreciate it. Here is an Murcielago I saw yesterday while stopped at a light for your time.

jacks are jacks, it’s the stands you don’t want to cheap out on.

Is that in El Paso?

I’m happy with this one. I got it after my craftsman wouldn’t fit under some of our cars.

Also on the hunt for a good jack. I've heard pretty good thing about Costco jacks, and apparently they have a good low profile jack that'll fit under lower cars.

Go to Sears and buy this one. It’s a 3.5 ton and usually bundled with stands. I picked this one up around 20 years ago and hasn’t failed me.

Meh. Everyone I know uses Harbor Freight for a jack. That’s not what matters. As long as you can fit it under the car and raise it up, it works.
Jack stands are what's important. That's what holds your car in the air without squishing you.

I’d spend money on the jack stands, and go HF for a jack. The jack stands are the important bit. If HF is close you can return the jack easy if you get a bad one. They know all about returns and it’s cake.

I’ve had the harbor freight racing jack for about 3 years and use it atleast a few times a week if not every day sometimes.
If your only using it occasionally then what’s the issue? No need to hate on harbor freight jack...it’s a fucking jack ffs not some precise instrument.

I see tire shops that utilize fleets of the Harbor Freight Rapid Pumps.

Went with this one, I know the costco aluminum ones are good, but I wanted lift vs low profile;

The other nice thing is this one is completely serviceable. It comes with spare seals too. When I was looking I ended up talking to a handful of tire shops, all had one or two of these ones in use.

Pretty much every jack I've seen at track days is Harbor Freight. They get the job done.

Meh. Harbor Freight is fine. Everyone I know at track days has them, and they fit under low racecars just fine.

What’s important to you?
Do you want a low-profile jack that’s sure to fit underneath anything you need it to? Do you need a large-capacity jack just in case you end up having to lift a loaded trailer? Do you need high lift? Will you be using it frequently enough where a fast-pump feature would be worth it?

Thank you for the comments. Looks like a HF low profile jack as both cars are a bit low. Not stance nation but they are low. I’ll get some good quality stand as well.

That with stands is what I got first and still sometimes use.

There aren't any harbor freight stores around me, so if it breaks I'll be out of luck. I need to check up on Costcos warranty. If it's good, might just go with that instead of HF.

I agree, a 3 ton Jack & stand set at sams a long time ago(10 years?) and it still works for me as well.

I have a harbor freight jack and 3 ton jack stands, they worked great all winter while I worked on my WRX. I also used them once on my old CX7 and the stands pushed the asphalt of my driveway down. The impression is still tther, so I have plenty of confidence in them.

Can confirm. Bought he low profile jack at hf. It's good. Can't make any statements on longevity, just bought it a month ago

Go to Sears and match a product to your price bracket. I got a Craftsman kit with floor jack with two jack stands at Kmart a while back on clearance for $70 (but that was a fluke). Solid stuff. Spend $150 and you’ll be doing great.

I bought my jack for $20 at walmart. Works just fine, and it won’t kill you as long as you put jack stands under the car. IMO you don’t need a nice jack to get work done

NAPA had a good deal on their brand of lo pro floor jacks by me. Little over $200 with a coupon and it lifts almost to 20".

The HF aluminum blue and silver dual piston low profile jack is the same one by Craftsman with different stickers. That’s how a lot of things like that are, same part, same factory, different stickers/pricing. Check out the Harbor Freight Coupon Database for a way to get an even better deal.
