R63 Snonuts for your time.

If you had $15k to $20k and needed a 3rd-row vehicle (6 seats minimum) and 0 restrictions for MPG (not a daily driver) what would you suggest for a low-surprise ownership that isn’t too dull to drive?

Not in a snowy clime, so fun trumps sensibility on that side of it. Ultimately though it’s turnkey reliability that is the designator here.

Full size SUV? Crossover? Minivan? There are tons of cars in that price range with 3 rows. For fun, the wagons that are available probably don’t have useable 3rd rows or have used European reliability (or both, most likely) so I’d say a Ford Flex EcoBoost or Mazda CX9.

Exactly, tons of options, that’s why it’s hard to boil it down. There is already a minivan in the house which is the primary kid-hauler. Hence, why this one needs the seats, but will be used in a pinch or on a weekend by a guy who will typically ride/run to work or work from home.

You might take a look at some of the European wagons, like the Mercedes E-Class, or Volvo v70r. Some of them have fold-up third row seats for occasional use, exactly like what you said.

Looking at the Lexus GX and LX for the same reason.

Personally I’d choose ab 80 series, but I am with you on the Land Cruiser

While still rock solid, the 80's are at the age that they need servicing by now.
