Evolved so quickly that cars had to start using fake vents in order to make up for the empty space? That or spend money on a new front end and halogen housings just to fix that issue (aka 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee refresh).

Kinja'd!!!

Housing size that the front end was made for.

Kinja'd!!!

Housing size the front end wasn’t made for (add plastic).

Kinja'd!!!

Front end redesigned for new housing size!

And here is a reminder of what the new Acadia looks like:

It pisses me off that OEMs will have all this bright white accent LED lighting and insist on using a halogen projector instead of HIDs. it looks so wrong.

White accent LEDs satisfy Canadian DRL requirements.

This is the only case where fake vents get a pass from me! I was just noticing today how ENORMOUS the jowly fake vents are getting on SUVs like the X5. I haven’t seen an F-Pace IRL yet but I hope it isn’t the same vent-looking cop-out as the X5. Can’t tell from pics.

YES. And also when they’re completely different color temps. It looks so cheap, like 10 years ago pep boys racerboy crowd. How much could it possibly cost to make sure your lighting is all the same color????

I’ll take fake vents if it means I get headlights with non-Eisenhower era technology.

The OG Grand Cherokee of the current gen had the best (biggest) headlights:

Did you know that’s the style WK2 I currently own? Because if so, then you just buttered me up more than a fresh baked buttermilk biscuit on a Southern Sunday morning! I’m grinning ear to ear like baby corn on a stalk!

This is the only picture I have of my father’s X5. And I agree, the fake plastic is ridiculous.

The new Acadia looks terrible: like a Durango mated with a 2000's Oldsmobile Bravada. The way the B-pillar sits and how the rear window is located higher than the front two bugs me to no end. But I’m a big fan of modern headlight tech. Halogens always look so dated anymore.

The white LEDs aren’t the problem, it’s the cheap-looking yellow headlight bulbs they’re getting paired with.

Right? They look decent except for that. My friends say I’m too picky but I studied mechanical engineering while all the time wishing I could go graphic design, and here I am. In my perfect world, the two can and should coexist.

Possibly unpopular opinion, but I’m going to disagree with you there 5k+ colors still look ricey to me. I really prefer 3-4k, the warmer temperature just looks better.

More than judging any particular color temperature of light, the problem is the DRLs and headlights don’t match. If a car has regular yellow halogen DRLs and headlights, fine. But if a car has fancy white DRLs then it looks crappy if the headlights don’t match.

including.... the new civic, new accord, current gen Durangos, Chrysler 200 and 300 (200 looks especially wrong because main beams are especially yellow and the LEDs appear to be brighter than the main beams.) it also bothers me that when the main light cluster is pure white the fog lights are a different coor, while I do get that a slighltly yellower color shines through fog better. on the contrary, here are some new cars that have HIDs but halogen DRLs; VW CC (that's literally the only one I can think of, and it was only special order in the us for a limited time, although my rental in Germany was like this)
