I’ve been wanting to make my engine sound a little meatier, as I’ve come tired of the constant droning of the current exhaust.
I’ve been tempted to straight pipe my car, but I don’t want to be ricey, as I feel like a ‘ricey’ upgrade will only be something I’ll wind up regretting.
Anyway, here are some clips of 1.8t Passats with Straight pipes, and I want a second opinion before I grab the zawzaw.
If it is ricey, I’d love to here ways to improve the sound of my exhaust without being a ricer, as I really have no idea what I’m doing when it comes to ‘Sound tuning’

Just doesn’t sound good, and sounds downright cheap... Have you done anything intake wise? That’ll give you loud noises when on the gas, and not so much when just cruising(droning).

I’ll go with, who cares?
if you like it, do it.

Sounds like they’re missing mufflers. I hear that and think “did they lose part of their exhaust on the highway?”

My car is completely stock. I am a car noob essentially, trying to take what other people have done and apply it to my own so I don't wind up royal fucking up my car.

I’ll start by saying that it’s your car and you should do whatever make you happy, but...
Making a stock 1.8T sound “meatier” is inherently ricey. To me, a ricer is anyone who changes their car in the interest of attention, or something similar, rather than making practical modifications. Doing this doesn’t improve performance, it just makes the car a little obnoxious.
I hope that’s not too harsh. Not trying to break rule #1.

From a super quick youtube search, I’d say this sounds a lot better. I’m with Party-VI on how it sounds straight pipe.
This sounds even better than the second, though the mic is struggling to pick it up so it would be better to find another video or hear in person to really gauge it.
You’re always going to have a battle vs ricey when doing exhaust modifications on tiny engines. With a V8 you can slap a couple decent mufflers on and boom - ear heaven. You’re under 2L here, that’s a battle.

I think it sounds okay. I wouldn’t worry so much about being a ricer when it seems you don’t even know what that is:

Is that the Techtonic system?

A Glasspack/thrush/cherrybomb will quite down the straight pipe a bit and cut out some of that low farty noise but I hear they can drone a bit on the highway.

Well I want it to sound ‘meatier’ just because I want a better sounding car for me. I have a tendency for hard acceleration because I like the sound I hear from up front, but when I open the windows or go through a tunnel, the sound just disappoints every time.
However, I would be lying if I wasn’t looking for a little attention.
However, Sound isn’t the highest thing on my priority list, (KW V3 because I also have a thing for overkill) but I was hoping that straight pipes would be a descent sounding cheap upgrade... But the more and more videos of straight piped passats I watch, the shittier they sound.
Looks like I'll need a Cat-Back...

I almost recommended the Techtonic system, but this one is the EuroJet. This EuroJet one had a deeper rumble less ricey sound to me. Techtonic was almost sent along though haha
