I finally got a good, daily drivable, mk1a 1985 MR2! The lightest of all MR2 and came with rear anti roll bar.

Very 80s.

That’s an awesome car, congrats.

Very awesome, congratulations. Is that your red one too? We need more pictures and details.

Not enough MR2s still have those fantastic wheels

I know! I love these triangles. They’re really heavy at 14.5 lbs for a 14x5.5...but they look so right on the car.
![]() 05/01/2016 at 16:29 |

Oh wow, heavy indeed, but they do look perfect on a stock MR2

It is like Celica’s smaller, more sprite, high-revving cousin!
![]() 05/01/2016 at 16:31 |

It’s better than the Celica — it’s an MR2!

*barf* XD
I love MR2's and had an 87 (which I don’t think ever even had these wheels stock), but I’m glad as hell mine didn’t. I can respect your affinity for them, but I’m on the other side and am actually glad most AW11's don’t have these wheels anymore.

Nice!! How many miles??

230k. :)

Fair enough, I can understand the lack of appeal

What’s wrong with the triangle wheels?!

Is the red one in front of it yours too?

Ace!

Looks clean, Congrats!

Hah no, it’s another dude’s. I never really liked the 2nd gen, too much bloat.
![]() 05/01/2016 at 22:34 |
|
I really like both of them. I like all the old Toyotas.
![]() 05/01/2016 at 22:42 |
|
You should get one. 2nd gen non-turbos go for pennies and are plentiful.

Yes, yes, more pictures and details. I like 80's mid-engined wedges a lot.

Still great cars, but the driving feel is nowhere near as good in an SW.

Not quite the lightest, still has a sunroof :P

Argh...I know. That part doesn’t bug me too much but I ideally wanted a hardtop. It can’t be more than like 10 lb difference.
![]() 05/02/2016 at 13:20 |
|
I’m not sure, but it’s probably like 30ish lbs I’d think. The glass itself + bracketry on the roof and the extra metal to drop the inner roof down to go around the opening, plus the bracketry in the frunk for storing the thing. Throw a Braille B2015 battery in there and that’s most of the weight back.
![]() 05/02/2016 at 13:34 |
|
Is that the lightest battery I can get? There must be something lighter with just as much amp.
![]() 05/02/2016 at 14:17 |
|
It’s not the lightest, but at half the weight/size of the normal battery for like $160 it’s a pretty solid deal. They have a line of carbon batteries that are stupid light, but also stupid expensive. I went with the 2015 because it’s a Miata battery so they will always be available, and it’s got enough juice for THAT 1.6, so I reasoned it should be fine for my 1.6
![]() 05/02/2016 at 17:05 |
|
Hmmm I see. What about their competitor’s? I would like to see a 10 lb lead version since the 15 lb has way more amp than really necessary.
![]() 05/02/2016 at 19:01 |
|
The B129 is 9.5lbs with 813 pca
B106 is 6.9 lb with 527 pca
On a car that you drive on the street with regularity I wouldn’t go smaller than the 129
![]() 05/02/2016 at 19:07 |
|
Ooh that B129 looks just perfect for my needs. The 1.6 engine doesn’t even need more than 550 cold amps anyway. 800 will be very safe.

Just keep in mind that PCA and CCA are very different things.

I’m not sure I can say there’s something “wrong” about the triangle wheels, but they certainly don’t work in my eyes. The 80s styling is very hit or miss with me... The car itself, so 80s I love it - the wheels, so 80s I hate it. Plus for some reason I never liked 3-spoke (and similar, like this) wheels - anything less than 5-spoke just seem weird to me.
