Did this thing actually come with an i7 to begin with? I’m having a tough time wrapping my head around a Precision tower without a Xeon.

OK maybe I twisted the truth a little bit, it has an xeon w3520 2.66ghz. It is identical to an i7 920. i7 just sounds better when listing parts off.

D’Oppobox sounds a bit like D’Artagnan. So, that could work.

Don’t name it until you have all the proper upgrades on it.
SSD harddrive
video card (at least 4GB )
Windows 7 at least. & 64-bit
decent antivirus (Sophos, etc)
DVD-CD/CD-RW (Roxio software is free)

Yeah it’s easier to tell from i7 part numbers what their performance is. And in this case it is almost identical - the only real difference for single-socket Xeons of that era is that they support ECC and i7's don’t... and other than that they are exactly the same. It is nice that we are now in an era where the Xeon’s and i7's have more separation - I do wish the Xeon part numbers made more sense, though.
