Just in case anyone has been putting them off, the tax deadline for 2016 has been pushed back from our usual April 15th to Monday, April 18th. Why? Well usually if the 15th falls on a weekend, the deadline moves to the following Monday. “But Wobbles, April 15 is a Friday, and it’s happening right NOW!” My friends, Emancipation Day is April 16th, a Saturday, thus Washington D.C. (namely the IRS) are on Holiday today!

Why a single city's holiday extends filing deadlines nationwide I still don’t get...not that I mind, but it makes no sense.

No, you fill out a bunch of forms begging the government for money for car parts and they decide if your project is worthy. Sometimes they say no and make you donate to the project cars of the less fortunate; other times they say yes, because your sacrifice was deemed acceptable and because racecar.

Few people realize that IRS actually stands for Incremental Restoration System.

I do the whole get return ASAP or pay late as possible. I put it off because I thought I owed a couple thousand based on early hand calc, which was unexpected as I thought I set up last year to get a minimum return. I forget a deduction (which also was enough to change my tax bracket), so I get a small refund...in my face?...Now I have to spend all Sat with the TurboTax software. Woo.

I try for +/- $100 every year. HR probably hates me for my W4 fuckery.

I’m the same way! I do TurboTax mid-Feb (without sending aka not using a correct employer number), find out how much I’ll owe, then put off filing until the due date.

The IRS at large are not on holiday. Just those jerks in DC. Not that I'm annoyed or anything.

I wasn’t sure if I was going to need the extra three days or not, so I just pretended that they were still due on the 15th. I’ve received my notification that my taxes were accepted, so I guess I could have waited ‘til the last minute after all!

Your results may vary...

If they outsourced that shit to ADP and you choose the right number of exemptions, their calculations generally result in a very small return, like $100-ish. I’ve been watching their accuracy for years. They’re so good that small changes in the laws will be reflected in the following paycheck (so the dollar amount floats in spite of being a salaried employee). If I get some extra income or a raise, the checks change accordingly.

Just saying: It's impressive.

Protip: You can file your forms at any time, even if you owe money it doesn’t have to be posted until tax day.
