Appolgies if this is a double post. I think something went wrong with the last attempt.
So who ‘owns’ this oppositelock blog now?I remember it used to belong to a guy with the word porsche in his username. Is that still the case?
For some reason i cant find any info on this site.
Also is there any story behind the seperation from jalopnik? I remember seeing people joke about the ‘divorce’ but have no idea how or why it happened.
Thanks for any replies

I believe Fred (porsche9146) still is the “owner” of record. The break from Jalopnik concurs with the severing of all community subblogs, to avoid legal liability through assumption of authority. I think there was an issue of copyright on a subblog that kicked that off.

The user porsche9146 is the owner, which means he has all moderator privileges and the ability to choose who is a moderator.

I guess if he’s going to thank us for “any” replies he shouldn’t be surprised when people reply with almost anything. Basically, he just thanked you for that thing you did when you did it, that thing.

Someone over here was calling up car manufacturers asking for press cars claiming they wrote for Jalopnik, then linking to Oppo posts.

For the sake of the children, we don’t like to talk about the divorce. It was really messy.

What are you going to do Oppo, when Hulkamedia understeers wild on you?

Wow I didn’t know that

Oppo is owned by the Oppo collective after the separation (exact legal phrasing is somewhere in the settlement agreement).
Pictured below is said collective explaining why it was done:

What even is “ownership,” man? I mean, does anyone really “own” anything? When we die, what do we take with us? Do we even go anywhere? Do the words we write today in our shitpostings belong to us after we’re gone, or even after we hit “publish?” Do we even exist at all or are we just lines of code in some sort of Sim? If porsche9146 “owns” Oppo, who or what “owns” porsche9146? Also, is he even a real 914/6 or just a /4 with an engine swap?

I have it on good authority that God oppos in heaven, so, yes, we can take Oppo with us when we die.
As for who owns Porsche9146 — clearly the answer is basketball.

While that is bullshit (I’m a credentialed journalist, so stuff like that especially ticks me off), it’s not the reason the sub-blogs ultimately ended up being severed from their parent verticals. It was an issue with someone posting copyrighted work on one of the subs (I think it was O-Deck) that got main paged to either Giz or io9. I forget. I could probably look it up and find out for sure, if you really want to know.
