I have a sudden want for something 2 wheels, old, japanese and with 4 cylinders.
you know the kind, where it smells like warm oil, revs to the sky and back....sometimes a pain in the ass to work on? almost sounds hollow at idle....but howls like a wild animal when you give’r the beans?
modern suspension, brakes, tires, lighting. Man, i need to finish uni already and start making money.
That Katana 1000 that Icon made was fucking SWEET.

there is a guy at the university with one. I have never seen one before in my life. I was so confused as to what the fuck it was.

They’re very uncommon. I’ve only seen a handful of them around the DC/VA/MD in the past decade or so.

except yours isnt old, and it doesnt like to rev.

Electric motors rev for days!

The nighthawk is in the middle of being revived.....with additional saddlebags and a windshield! And proper turn signals isntead of the cheap-but-bright LED blinker triangles I bought to have turn signals last season.
It is fun to wring out an old 4-cylinder with 4 carbs to 10k rpm.

I just saw like a blob...at first I thought it was a old benilli or something.
Did they have ANY other bikes that looked even remotely like that?

The ZX-11 had the same look about it.

I think its the ONLY bike in the world where you could pull off a pop-up headlight....would love to see someone try that
maybe one of those LED light strips with signals, a little more paneling to help keep it clean. and ofc somewhere to mount the plate

If I was going to go with a big fat Kawi it would be this:
1400 cc, shaft drive

How old is old?
![]() 04/06/2016 at 16:00 |

4 times the carburetors 4 times the fun!

That’s what Kawasaki did with the ZZR after they nuked it - turned it into the Concours.

Fazer?
Interceptor? (IDK why, but I have an undying lust for these bikes, I will own one some day)
First gen GSXR?
All old, all Japanese, at least 2 scream like a banshee, all a PITA to work on, and all with fairly modern suspension and brakes.

My buddy’s got an ‘82 1100 E GS he’ll sell you......

by ‘modern suspension and brakes’ I mean UPD’s and radial mounted pieces

Fork swap? I think that’s they only way you’re going to get that on something “old”.

yeep.
I’ve already done the fork swap on my SV, so its not something i’m entirely unfamiliar with.

That’s the one thing that I really want to do on my XJ but haven’t yet. Not because I don’t think I can do it, but because I don’t want to pay for a good set of forks haha. That and I don’t want mismatched wheels, and with shaft drive that’s pretty difficult. Might just have to suck it up and do it.
Looks good, handles like absolute garbage. Rebuilding the current forks would probably help a bunch too.

its a LOT easier when you dont have to worry about ABS like I did.
I cant wait to pick up another project one day....

DUDE! I could’ve sworn for a second this was my old bike that I sold when I was 19 and headed off to college. Mine had an alligator skin seat though and vance and hines exhaust. Sounded so good. That bike still has a piece of my heart. where is this located/how much?

This is just a stock photo I grabbed on one... my buddy’s is actually one of the blue ones—

We picked up a rough-ish ‘71 CB 750 a week or two back. Fun little bugger, although I didn’t ride it too long since the upper triple was held on by a hose clamp, the fork seals were electrical tape, and the carbs only seemed to know how to idle way too high or way too low and they never did agree on anything.
Made me realize how much of that classic “standard” styling has been lost. Even going into the 80's the UJM’s started to trend more and more cruiser-like.

I really want a Suzuki Bandit 1200S 2001-2008. Really I want the 2005 model year, but those are harder to find.
