I’ve got a colleagues Galaxy S6 that will not auto-sync anything except sms messages! Voicemails, emails (gmail app), and calendar will only sync when you enter the app/sync manually. So far I have tried:

Rebooting/soft reset

Clearing cache and data for the apps in question

Clearing cache and data for the phone application

Disable/Enable Auto-Sync

Remove/Add email accounts

He’s the only android user at the company, any suggestions are appreciated.

Step 1: buy an iPhone

Step 2: throw android phone away.

Did you try turning it off and then back on?

You’re preaching to the choir. 60 peeps at this company 1 android user. I’m not allowing anymore android devices, but his isn’t eligible to be upgraded yet and I’m not looking to take the price of a new one out of my budget haha.

Yea, we just did a software update as well. It’s just mail at this point, voicemail started working after we called the vm number and deleted the messages

There could be any number of things going on. First check that the phone is allowing apps to sync. Do this by going to settings and looking for the accounts tab. Go through the apps in question and check what is allowed to sync and what isn't.

Both my old Nexus 4 and my dad’s phone randomly stopped syncing Gmail a couple of months ago. I think an update must have broken something. I don’t use voicemail or the calendar so I can’t comment on those.

I’ve got everything working except Gmail at this point. The Gmail issue seems to point to an issue with a recent software update. Thanks!

Thanks! I’ve got everything working except Gmail at this point and that is what I am finding through heavy googling (that an update has caused sync issues w gmail). Guess he will have to pick a new mail app.

Good or bad, this seems like the result of the fact there are multiple ways to do anything in Android.

My kids mess my phone up all the time - and I have to figure out which way they did it so I can undo it.

Did you check the sync settings in gmail itself? In the quick dropdown? In the app settings? In accounts?

Did you check to see if you could manually update gmail (though I kind of doubt this is really the issue).

So many companies push using WiFi so hard, many of them require you to specifically allow network use. Which can break auto updates. I’ll have a queue of 20 apps waiting to download because the one currently “downloading” won’t do it OTA and I never hook up to WiFi. I kill that one and all the rest can finish.

Long story short - do a manual check.

If you’ve done all these things, there are some others we could try, but it’s hard to do remotely.

Much appreciated. I’ve got everything working except for Gmail at this point. Yes, manual update works, and if you send an email it refreshes the inbox, but that is it. I have read a lot of posts related to the Gmail app and a recent android update. Rather than fiddle with it more, I told the guy that he needs to pick a new mail app for me to configure until we get Gmail sorted.

I’d rather use a typewriter and carrier pigeons to send messages than use an iPhone. I’ve hated everything Apple since the early 90's when we had to go to the computer lab and use those ugly hybrid monitor/tower computers with the one button on the mouse.

I meant try to manually update gmail, not refresh manually. But either way it’s a bit of a long shot.
