(c) moves-like-senna - Joshua Tree, early morning sunrise (Early January 2016) - Subterrain mudhut
I’m bored at work and noticed it’s April 1st. From January 1st starting at midnight (yes I was driving) until midnight last night I’d driven just over 12,000 miles, in 29 cars in a span of just three months without owning a car.
The longest I’ve owned a car in the past 5 years was 2 months (I never saw it as it was in Europe being shipped), for one that I had on hand it was 8 days and I drove it around the block once.
I’ll be adding at least another 1000 miles starting this afternoon through the weekend with a mystery car. I’ve driven everything from a V6 Camaro to Boostang, 911 Turbo, Impala Classic, Ford Fusions (yes plural), Priiii (multiple prius models?) to full size trucks and beyond (Sierra 2500, F550, Ram 5500, Denali 3500 etc).

Impressive, how come you never saw the car you owned 2 months?

What do you do to drive so much/so many cars?

I bought it through one of my ex girlfriend’s father’s (we broke up maybe 4 years and a bit ago). One of his employees/neighbors had an e30 wagon with an m3 swap that I saw under a tarp about 7 years ago and I told him to call me if it’s ever up for sale. Low and behold a year ago he followed through and I got the call and it was a good price so I said yes.
I transferred the money (I trust him) and he set out the paperwork for it to be shipped to the Vancouver. I never saw a photo and it was on a container fairly quick. I posted it on Facebook about a month before it was supposed to arrive and a friend in Vancouver messaged me with an offer a few grand more than I’d paid (I live in Montreal and planned to road trip it south then east). I took the offer as I wasn’t too attached and had to pay off debts created from my last ex girlfriend.
TLDR: Car in Europe > Shipped > Better offer > never saw it

I love to travel and take every opportunity I get. Friend’s want to go up north? I’m on it. Visit the GF 350 miles away? Sure. Friend’s want to go for a drive (I have fairly extensive track experience so I like to show them what their car can do).
All the miles are on personal time (I had three years of vacation racked up and still have 33 days left).

I’m a startup geek. I’m on the business end of things and currently my bread and butter is running most of a startup and for my passions I consult for others (part ownership in some). Normally about 3-6 other companies.
(all miles are on personal time)

Do you rent these cars or borrow them?

Both. There’s lot’s of rentals in there for sure (I’m an Enterprise Platnium member) and I’m in a subscription car share service within the city (prius C + nissan leaf).
But I also borrow from friends a lot or drive for them. The 911 Turbo was a friends (it was bright purple until we got lit up, parked it in a storage facilty and the next day it was school bus yellow - gotta love vinyls) or if I’m home on the west coast I just grab trucks wherever I can.

That sounds like a really weird wrap.

My gf lives 4 hours away and home is about 3 so I understand. I’ll have to check how many miles I've racked up.

Yea it adds up quick. For me it’s a 6 hour drive a 2-3 times a month. I do take the bus frequently as it’s cheaper and I can sleep, but if I drive I tend to do it allegedly in 4 hours (unofficial record)
Calculate your miles! I’m curious :D

It’s now lime green haha. He come’s from a family who is in ‘waste management’. The car is ‘allegedly’ not registered, there are no plates and there is allegedly a strict no photos, no cellphones powered and pulling over policy when driving his cars. (which probably now explains the weird color swaps)

That seems sketchy.

Very much so, but he’s not a great driver and loves to let me drive them.
