Why are some supercar owners complete dicks?

I ask because a guy (he doesn’t deserve his name here, but he’s fairly large on social media) has just bought salomondrin’s Pagani Huayra and has decided to rename it to “da Vinci.” Being that the old name was “730S,” and that he renamed what is basically a used, bespoke car, this has not gone down well. He has resorted to blocking everyone who asks about the name change, citing that “people are jealous” and that “they are doing silly things that they will regret.” I see this as an act of being an asshole. So I ask, why?

Ugh I hate this. I end up basically a subcontractor of sorts for lots of folks like this. They don't realize that if they ignore the minion, they don't get their multi-million dollar development and I have quite a bit of flexibility in how much hell I can make that process.

From my point of view, a bunch of Salomondrin’s fanboys are like telling him what he should do in a rude way (like I’ve seen some pretty damn rude stuff.) I think the Salomondrin people that are getting banned are the ones in the wrong right now.

I’ve read as much as I could on both their Instagrams but I mean I don’t know the entire story I might be wrong.

I’ll take it from both sides.

On one hand, David has renamed a 1 of 1 car. As of my knowledge, I don’t think Pagani acknowledges this, and David talks as if he’s personally interacted with Horacio Pagani before, when in reality he has not.

On the other hand, David has the right to call his car whatever he wants to, and in the end it is his car now. He can choose to ignore everyone if he wants to.

Salomondrin’s calling it the 730S, as if it is somehow special among the other Huayras, is also pretty bullshit. Same thing for that “the king 1 of 1" car which also happens to be the fugliest of the Huayras.

Each Huayra is a bespoke car, a one of one. Paying a few grand extra for a special plaque is just puffery.

This is only a thing because the car is special. Douches drive economy cars, hybrids, vans, SUVs, supercars and unicycles. You just don't hear about those as much.

Buying a used car and renaming it is such a huge demonstration of poor class, dude is just a poser, he should like it for what it is, reality is it will always be Alejandro’s Huayra because he specced every little bit of it to his taste.

This is a guy who almost certainly paid more than what Alejandro paid brand new just for the sake of not waiting to get his own car.

I was discussing this with a friend of mine that actually met David at Pebble Beach last year, and both of us agree that no amount of wait time is worth being able to customize your very own Pagani.

Well, to be fair, 730S is a fucking awful name. All alphanumerical names are awful because they don’t pass the Mom Test: if my mom remembers the name, then it’s a good name. She knows what a Prius, Miata, and Corvette are, but has no idea what an M3, 458, or WRX are. Those aren't cars, that's just alphabet soup.

The only good name for a Huayra I can think of is Scozia, because of the Scottish flags painted under the active aero flaps (check out northeastmotorcars on IG, he has a photo), and the tartan plaid seats.

To be fair, he mentions this as well. All it does is gaurentee no one else can copy the spec of the car. Which is pretty cool when you are buying a car they will only make about 100 of or so. Also, he drives all his cars.

I’ve seen his videos, and I like the guy, but IMO it’s an attempt to make his car artificially more valuable. I don’t believe of the 100 cars there are any duplicate specs.

I kind of doubt there are as well. With a care like that, you’re not buying one off the lot at whatever colors they give you. But to be fair, I loved his spec, it was about perfect. And the satin wrap he had it in at the end looked even better. If I had the money, I would have bought it.
