I know that feel, all I can say is that there is a definite disconnect between the amount of work somethings take and the amount of interest they generate. sometimes you labor furiously in obscurity and sometimes you strike turbocharger tattoo gold. The science of finding the converging lines between easy research and writing and maximum views is called
Sploid
“market driven content”

About a year ago, I made up a story about a fictional car review and posted it to oppo. Took about a day to write and got barely anything? Why? Giant wall of text with no pictures!

It can have a lot to do with timing. I’ve been making twice-weekly aviation history posts for almost a year now. It takes a ton of work to put them together. Sometimes, I get maybe one or two stars. Other times I get tons of replies. It’s kind of a crap shoot. But it is frustrating.

The other thing is that a lot of readers on Oppo don’t want to take the time to read something long. It’s simply the nature of the medium. A quick glance at a photo, a couple of lines of text, and a quick reply. I know that for my aviation history posts I have a small group of people who read regularly. I imagine many are turned off by the length of the post or the subject matter. I’m not disappointed any more if nobody reads. I’m doing it as much for myself as Oppo.

I’m so glad to hear about your post, because as one of those posts biggest fans I would have for you to stop them based on readership. Also, I agree, this is the same problem overland has, trip reports are long and picture heavy...they are great and I love them but it makes it harder for a causal digest.

Haha, no. This all actually stemmed from the Cards Against Humanity-esque game that was posted a few hours ago. One of the answers was “Indescribable Loneliness” and I made a comment in the game chat that was to the same effect as this post. That post has actually got more views today than it did when new, oddly enough.

I love those posts. They look like they take a while to do. They seem to be regularly shared to Oppositeblog, so I usually catch up with them there.

Thanks for reading! There’s another one tomorrow!
