The recent Rolls and Bentley posts on the front page made me sit back and think, “I never click on these.” And I think it’s because I don’t give three flying craps about super heavy, extremely expensive luxo barges. I can understand if you do. They’re powerful and comfortable and trimmed for aristocracy, but they’re just not my thing. I’m never going to spend that much on a new car, and by the time I could afford one used, all the luxury will have crusted over and flaked off and I might as well buy a Cadillac or something.
So what segment of enthusiast car interests you the least?
![]() 02/23/2016 at 11:46 |

Pony cars.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 11:48 |

Ferraris, Lambos, and other “super cars.” They’re so out of reach for me and just so “blah” as far as they all seem basically the same. I never read road tests or articles about them.

SUV/Crossovers
I hate driving them, will be dammed if I ever own one
![]() 02/23/2016 at 11:50 |

Modern Porsches.
They really just don’t interest me. The only real current Porsche I like is the Panamera. The 911 Targa isn’t that bad either, but everything else is just zzzzzzzz for me.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 11:50 |

I’d go with muscle cars in the malaise era. They’re not reliable, not very powerful, not exactly lightweight, I don’t think they’re good looking (that’s subjective though), and go a few years back or forward and they’re way better.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 11:50 |

pretty sure that’s a beetle

that’s what we all say, then we have kids.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 11:51 |

Modern hypercars.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 11:52 |

Agreed. For example, Shmee150's youtube channel is SO boring sometimes. He films the same cars over and over again...
![]() 02/23/2016 at 11:52 |

The hardcore track versions of normal cars.

When we have kids we get the superior vans
![]() 02/23/2016 at 11:54 |

Hot hatches. I respect them but they just don’t do it for me.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 11:55 |

Most modern supercars. I just don’t care. They just seem so sterile.
I am not counting things that blur the line between GT car and supercar. Such as the LFA, DB9, Corvette and so on.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 11:55 |

I like the older, air-cooled ones, but since then, I feel pretty much the same.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 11:56 |

that what crossovers are aren’t they?
![]() 02/23/2016 at 11:57 |

Crossovers and SUVs are like the cancer of cars and enthusiasts everywhere. To me, they are a lot worse than minivans.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 11:58 |

I agree with you, but with a few notable exceptions, I wouldn’t really consider them “enthusiast” cars, other than in the sense that anyone can be an enthusiast about anything. The vast majority are commuters.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 11:59 |

No
![]() 02/23/2016 at 11:59 |

Superior vans are full size.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 11:59 |

Modified cars. Where I live it makes zero financial sense to modify cars performance wise but feel free to put as many wings and fake M badges as you like.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 12:01 |

hehe. what is a superior van then?
we bought our CUV because we needed a 7 passenger and AWD.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 12:01 |

Good point. Okay, over powered muscle cars. I, for some reason, cannot stand muscle cars with 1,500+ horsepower made for the drag strip since their owners tend to be rednecks or d-bags.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 12:02 |

Scions....or little tiny cars.
It is like the time I am in the mall and walk by American Eagle...I go, “Damn, I am too old for anything in there.” That is my exact feeling on Scions.

I have no interest in insanely priced supercars. I never see them in real life, let alone do I even imagine I would ever drive or own one. DGAF. For me to be interested it has to be something in the realm of plausibility of ownership.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 12:05 |

This a million%
When I read about the new $400k+ supercars and all the style they have, and all the tech they have and all the performance they have, and I can’t help but be unimpressed thinking,
“For that money, it BETTER be fucking amazing.”
Then, even if it is, it HAS to be, so... ...yawn.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 12:06 |

Drag specific cars don’t really do much for me, either.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 12:06 |

Small cars like the miata, lotus elise etc.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 12:07 |

Most cars that can’t handle a curve. Driving fast in a straight line has never really interested me. I do like rat rods though.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 12:07 |

The Challenger is the only one left I still consider a pony car.
Mustang/Camaro are full-on sports cars now, IMO.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 12:07 |

I have very little enthusiasm for Hot rods, as in 50's cars tarted up with crome and such.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 12:08 |

The Challenger is still a muscle car, but the Mustang and Camaro are still pony cars. I wouldn’t call them anything else.

that doesn’t have anymore space than my 2014 pathfinder
and I am no fan of modern toyotas
My pathfinder is basically an awd minivan without sliding doors.

I just hate how they think drag racing is “real racing.” So called “real racing” to me involves learning how to balance a car in a corner, acceleration on straights, and braking before a corner.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 12:12 |

Not all SUVs. I mean, Jeeps and other ACTUAL off-roaders have extremely devoted owners.

I’ve never been one to fondle myself when I see a Jaguar. Occasionally on Oppo I’ll see this phenomenom that I don’t understand. Somebody will post a picture of a Jaguar with the caption “Jaaaaagggggg” and then the comment section echos “Jaaaaagggg”. Meanwhile, I’m sitting in my cubical thinking “yep, that’s a Jaguar. What else is on the internet...”
![]() 02/23/2016 at 12:18 |

Correct. The Sienna is awful. Sedona FTminivanW.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 12:19 |

Super- / Hyper-cars.
And Miatas, but that’s a different story.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 12:20 |

Honestly interested here, what (to you) makes them pony cars and not sports cars? What current cars ARE sports cars?
To me, they are lock step with other sportscar staples like the 370z, 4 series, even the GenCoupe. They have both shrunk considerably and can use small engines now. Hell the Camaro is only a little more than a foot longer while being only a few inches wider and it actually lower than a 2-series.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 12:20 |

There’s nothing fake about drag racing. It’s a legitamate form of racing and requires more skill (well, talent at least) than you would think.
Unless you’re saying people refer to it as “real racing” as a way to belittle circuit drivers. Then fuck that noise.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 12:21 |

Agreed, and those are definitely cool.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 12:21 |

We needed a minivan but only the toyota has awd, so thats why i got a awd 7 passenger CUV.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 12:22 |

A sports car is a car that was built with sporting intentions for all of its life. Pony cars may be sporty today, but the weren’t always like that. Cars like the Camaro and Mustang used to be classified as borderline muscle cars. Pony cars, to me, are sporty muscle cars.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 12:22 |

Yeah, drag racing is definitely real racing. It’s just not my favorite.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 12:22 |

The belittling... that is what I don’t like. I’ve never drag raced, so the skill involved is probably what you said.... more than I would think.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 12:23 |

Same. Drag racing isn’t my favorite.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 12:29 |

Driving in a straight line anything BUT fast doesn’t interest me. I know what you’re saying though.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 12:29 |

So it sounds like forever in your mind, these cars will be in their own class?
![]() 02/23/2016 at 12:30 |

Pretty much.

Also anything diesel, modified supercars, and aircooled Porsches

How new is the Pathfinder? Something tells me you’ll be wishing it was a Toyota after a few years. Every 2013-14 Pathfinder I’ve been in recently has been completely falling apart on the inside and a lot of them are on their second transmission.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 13:02 |

Electric cars, modern super cars, hyper cars, the wagon, the hot hatchback, the two seat convertible roadster, the sports sedan. For the most part, these segments either have been overplayed, or have been talked to death here on Oppo that I just stop caring about them.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 13:03 |

mines a 2014 SL and no problems, I have less then 40000Kms on it so far.
it had 20000kms when I bought it.
nothing in the world would make me want a Toyota.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 13:05 |
|
Sliding doors are kind of best part of a Minivan.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 13:07 |
|
Good to hear they aren’t all bad - maybe it was just first model yeat glitches - hope it holds up for you. From what I’ve seen the SL’s appear to be screwed together a bit better than the lower trims. I don’t care for Toyota much either, but in my case it has more to do with never getting them to reimburse me for a transmission replacement that ended up being part of a recall a few months later.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 13:07 |
|
I’d buy a Minivan if I had 3+ kids.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 13:24 |

like I said only minivan with awd is toyota, and I wanted /needed AWD for for our northen canadian weather.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 13:29 |

Super and hyper cars. Lame. I don’t care how fast your hedge fund mobile is. Give me some blue collar muscle or vintage Euro.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 13:42 |

I might catch shit for this... But I’m pretty uninterested in modern super sedans. All of the Audi, Mercedes AMG, and BMW sedans that are super powerful, yet still relatively big and heavy just don’t do that much for me. I appreciate them and think it’s neat that they exist and that others like them, but I really don’t keep up with them that much. I don’t normally read about them, watch videos about them, etc.
cool I guess, but not something I'm enthusiastic about.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 14:02 |

Flex Ecoboost AWD? I know that’s not strictly a Minivan either.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 14:12 |

I wanted the Flex, sans ego boost. My wife didn’t like the looks of the flex, and to tell you the truth the pathfinder’s interior is miles better than the Flex. fit and finish and space wise.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 14:19 |

Ego boost, I like it. Interior quality isn’t something I really pay too much attention to. Disclaimer: drives Mustang.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 14:42 |

i expected to hate the cvt of the pathfinder, and really wanted the flex.
went to try the pathfinder to cross it off my list
![]() 02/23/2016 at 14:50 |

I think trucks are childish. I’d say most of our non-American Oppos feel the same.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 14:55 |

I have a relative who also didn’t like the interior of the Flex. I think they’re buying a Buick Enclave or some crap.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 15:01 |

I have 2 friends who bought Explorers, and both had problem over problem over problem, since the flex is basically also an explorer it sorta scared me too. that and the gas milage the pathfinder does have the best in this class.
I’m a sucker for the looks of the flex, I wanted a 2014 like this one
![]() 02/23/2016 at 15:04 |

And the Explorer is basically a Taurus. I do love the Flex though.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 15:34 |

Yep. Luxobarges don’t interest me unless they’re dirt cheap ones from the 80s and older.
Exotic supercars in general, be they new ones like the 458 or Aventador or Zonda or older ones like the Miura or Daytona, don’t really interest me either.
They're cool and all, but for me they're a little pointless. I'll never own one. I might drive one on a track on one of those experience things but I'd rather take that money and go on a trackday with my existing car. There's nothing I can do to one myself to improve it (which is a big reason I like old classics. There's tons I can do myself to improve those!).
