I consider myself an okay chess player, I played against a guy a couple times in Union Square Park; he ended it so quickly I couldn’t comprehend what had happened

A guy tried to hustle me one night when I was stationed in Louisiana back in the 80s. The game wasn’t chess and involved him adding a bunch of numbers quickly. I had $1 in my pocket. I played and I won the first round and then I had $2. So I quit. He asked me if I was stupid, or whatever, and I looked over my shoulder as I walked away to make sure he didn’t sneak up on me, but I doubled my money.

Know when to walk away, know when to run.

You’re welcome. I thought it was beautiful and Maurice Ashley is now a hero of mine. He was so
gracious
. Do you play chess?

I do, but I like to take my time, and I play a bit impulsively without looking too far ahead. I guess you could say I use the Force. Needless to say, I'm not very good. :)

Do you know what the discussion is about right at the beginning when they’re moving the clock from one side of the board to the other?

Seemed to be about black getting to choose which side the clock is on since white goes first. But I don't see why it matters. I don't play with a clock, so I guess I missed the significance.

Might have been Maurice Ashley messing with the park guy. I thought it was beautiful.

Probably. He was so cool and confident.
