Rules: The car had to be sold brand new in 1955
For me I would buy a 55 Continental Mark II. It is one of the best and understated designs of the decade. The 55 is powered by a 368 cubic inch V8 engine making 285hp and pushed this 220 inch car forward with ease and elegance.
What car would you buy?

I mainly did that because I didn’t want to get chewed out for picking a 300SL roadster. But I do love the ‘55 Thudnerbird. By ‘57 they looked goofy.
EDIT: The roadster version of the 300SL wasn’t available until 1957.

I consider the Mark II to be in the top 5 most beautiful cars ever made, so that would be my choice as well. My great-grandmother had one. WHY DID YOU SELL IT, GRAMMA???

1955 Chevy Bel-Air 2 door Hardtop. Would have to have the all new 265 CI V8 with the Power Pack option that added a 4 barrel carb and dual exhaust backed by a good ol three on the tree. With Turquoise/White two tone interior and exterior.

Maserati 250F - probably the best looking F1 car ever, and available to customers with enough money.
Honourable mention to the 200S sports racer.

Now the real question here is:
Would you buy a 1955 Cadillac in red, pink or white?

EVERYONE is going to pick a super high end car in these hypothetical situations.....
The Lincoln Continental Mark II went for around $10,000 USD when new. That’s about $90,000 USD in 2015.
I’d love to see one of these hypotheticals where income is taken into account. I think it would add an interesting element.
You DID have a good choice though. ;)

With an unlimited budget, an early Ferrari Tour de France, one of my favorite cars ever:
More realistically though, a Simca Aronde:

Man, hard to argue with that Continental. If not that, I’d have a Lancia Aurelia Series 4 GT.

Ah the year of big Saloon cars. Tough choice between these 3.
1955 Jaguar MKI
1955 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud
1955 Bentley S1
I’d probably choose the Bentley

Yes, I would much rather have this Continental Fastback, than the new Continental GT. Oh I just had a wonderful idea, new Continental drive train, suspension, and everything, but the body of the 1955 Continental.

Yes! Jeep must hate us for not making them form the factory

Only possible conclusion I can draw.
I mean, AEV literally did the work for them. Just mass produce it.
