and one of those things that make OPPO great is understanding that not everyone wants a Miata, brown desiel manual wagon, Audi Allroad (can you believe it?), or a BRZ. This is one of those people. I have a friend looking to ditch her 2003 Camry. Budget max $14000. 2012 or newer fewer miles the better. She wanted something liek a Rav4 but they were out of her budget for what she wants to pay.

I bought a 2013 Kia Optima LX for around that price, still with gobs of warranty left. I love it. Tell them to look for those or Hyundai Sonatas. No turbo, though, they will cost more to maintain and the base GDi is plenty powerful.

The Yaris is a good choice, and of course she can’t go wrong with another Camry. There’s also the Corolla and Matrix. She should be able to get a low-miles 2012+ Matrix in her price range.

Toyota makes great cars.

In this case, the answer is Subaru. Probably an Outback older and with more miles than she wants, but you can’t be choosy with those constraints.

friend of my Girlfriend’s just bought a 2013 Elantra limited. Loaded to the gills, leather, heated seats (front and rear) auto climate control, Bluetooth, moonroof, etc. 27k miles, $12,000. No, its not a driver’s car, but its REALLY comfortable and has the balance of that 10-year 100k mile warranty. Modern Hyundais seem to be pretty much dead reliable and easy to service (my 2011 Elantra Touring was great on both fronts, and much more fun to drive than the sedan for many reasons...)

Skyactiv Mazda 3.

Corolla and civic are good choices too. I think the Corolla would be the better pick between those two because it's a little more practical.

Just tell her to look at consumer reports and buy whatever is recommended that she thinks looks cool.

No need to ask oppo what some random pedestrian car buyer should buy. There are no variables or wants or needs for us to work with. Just tell her to buy a corolla, she wouldnt be able to tell if it was a corolla or a camry anyway if it wasnt for the badge.

This is like asking what music CD should my deaf friend buy?

Anything.

If she really wants a crossover, 2011 and 2012 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, Kia Sorento, and Hyundai Santa Fe can all be found with under 40k miles for about $15,000. She could haggle down to where she needs to be.

You may want to mention that if she only wants to spend $14,000 then she will need to look for a vehicle closer to $10,500. Any extended warranties, tax, title, and financing fees will push her up to $14,000. If she purchases a $14k car, she will likely end up financing close to $20,000.

Yeah, I’m starting to see 2011-2013 Foresters come down near $14k and some even around $11k.

They’ll usually have higher than average miles but that’s OK, when I bought my 2013, it was 2 years old with 60k miles on it and it is in great condition.

(The 2011 is the same engine and design as the 2012 and 2013, so even if she wants 2012 or newer, don’t hesitate to step down a year on these model Foresters to snag a good deal).

I've also seen a lot of 2012 Legacies going for around $12k, too, if she'd prefer sedan over CUV/wagon.
