Not just ‘cause they’re practical, I like they way they look and what they do to the look of the car.
That’s all.
HVAC be damned.

I miss the dayes when Subarus were frameless

I like big windows and I cannot lie
You other motorists can’t deny
When you’re sitting in a Camaro or a Challenger and you can’t see shit
You get PISSED
Cause you like the vis-
ability when you roll through here
Deep in the seats you’re sittin
Through your tints you’ll be squintin
Your blinkers try to warn me
That you’re merging right but you can’t see me

One of the things I loved about the last-gem X5 was the big greenhouse. Looks good from the outside, is absolutely fantastic from the inside.

me too

The big greenhouse, MASSIVE rear tires and flared arches made the 1st gen x5 so sexy

Love me some bricks..
Actually my wife insists on big windows and good visibility.. We had mkII Jettas, a Westy, and now the Forester.
More HJZ77 than FJC..

Everytime I drive the Nox Box its a revelation to me how much more I enjoy being in a car with insanely big windows. Its not like they are even that small. I drove it today.

I like them because I like the look through them at the stuff around me.
![]() 02/05/2016 at 12:47 |

Not a small consideration. That’s mostly the reason I like them, but I also dig the looks.

Give you all my stars!

Even tinting the windows is a no for me.. When we were looking the mazda3 was a favourite until we sat in it..

That’s why the BMW 2002 is so cool looking, particularly in that orange.

Am I doing this right? :P Big windows!

I love the tint in the cruiser, but thats more a function of keeping the kids cooler and having a more private storage/nap place.

sure, I think that it was a great design for the time, and they actually have aged pretty well (aesthetically). they just happened to be built badly.

Nah. Looks > function.
Enough room for my head and thats it.

I pay a fair amount of money and go through a fair amount of crap to be able to see clearly more than 3" in front of my face. In my car I want lots of windows and I want them clean.
![]() 02/05/2016 at 12:57 |

Not so much. Mines all original. Except wear items and the A/C... oh the instrument panel and various electrical gremlins :P

I think they look nice. A truncated greenhouse just looks silly to me, like fake plastic fender rivets or something

Agree completely, the first gen X5 is one hell of a good looking SUV.

You got a problem?
![]() 02/05/2016 at 13:02 |

Did somebody say big windows?
Or how about 23 small windows:

Weirdest SUV coupe I’ve ever seen.
Look at it, with the sidewalls, fender clearance, and massive greenhouse. Your arm could almost reach right out one of those windows! That’s dangerous!

oooh, good one, forgot about the 2002.

Old Toytoas are very good at the whole outward visibility thing.

It sucks that these high beltlines make you look like you’ve melted into the seats when looked from the outside. Usually, the windows now are at the same height as where the average man’s ears are
![]() 02/05/2016 at 17:24 |
|
I think there should be an equation for all new cars to follow, the height of the side glass must be at least 50% of the height of the door panel from the bottom of the door to the bottom of the glass
Edit: glass should be at least 1/3 of total height of body
![]() 02/05/2016 at 17:25 |

I thought about that and then my thought ran to how manufactures would get around it in horrible ways...
![]() 02/05/2016 at 17:28 |

those pesky automotive manufacturers......

I think the single glassiest vehicle I’ve ever been in was a Disco. The glass starts barely above your lap and goes up to the top of your head.

Love the look of the disco I and ii...It doesn’t hurt that I live high roofs too
