I never cared for the brand but it’s kind of sad that it never got a fair shot. They started strong but kind of just limped on after that.

I think Toyota realized they just can’t make cool cars.

Wrong. Their BOF platforms are cool as fuck, and they have cool stuff that they won’t sell here.

I just hope there is a change to GT-86 as it always should’ve been.

BOF did not fit Scion at all though. Scion needed strong entry level cars. Everything they got was either uninteresting or too expensive to be entry level. The original XB was the only model that actually seemed to fit the brand.

Yeah, most of the brand seemed like it was different just for the sake of being different with no real effort and making meaningfully different products.

Scion could have lived on if they continued to sell quirky cars in the same pattern as the original xB, iA, and iQ. Such a shame they didn’t lived on longer. Their badge is pretty.

I was talking about Toyota in general though, as I believe Berang was. And the S-FR would have been great for Scion, along with a hotter version of the iM, and maybe a hotter new tC. The iM could have been like the Forte5 is for Kia, have hot and cold versions of the car in hatch, sedan, and coupe forms.

Exactly. Toyota can make cool stuff, the GT-86 is one of them.

What do you mean they never got a fair shot? I mean, I’m not happy to see them go or anything, but I’d say they had a pretty fair shot, they just didn’t succeed in the long run. Such is life/business.

Yeah 13 years seems like more than a fair amount of time to figure things out.

A fair shot is more than just time. A fair shot would be actual quality products. If Scion were a standalone brand without Toyota they’d be on par with Mitsubishi. Their products went a long time with out an update and every time they did get an update or a new product it was very half hearted. The only real effort put into Scion was in the beginning.

Scion was always meant to be a low price entry-level economy car brand. That’s what they had. Doing model refreshes often jacks the prices up, which is exactly what Scion doesn’t want to do. They had reasonable products for what they were trying to do. Did the lack of a CUV hurt them? Maybe, but I think their primary brand focus was on smaller “eco friendly” type cars, and a larger vehicle wouldn’t have fit into that profile.
Also, Mitsubishi has been circling the drain for years as well. I honestly can't believe they managed to outlive Scion. using them as a metric for a successful entry level car maker is a bit of a stretch of you ask me.
