We’ve been having flurries of activity trying to adapt. For instance, the university where I work has been trying to figure out how to accommodate the new law where it previously had strict no guns policies. I don’t predict there will be more shootings in lots of Texas, where many are trained in the proper use of guns and don’t think of people as their first choice of target. But, we have our share of gun violence too. It’ll take a while for statistics to accumulate on the ramifications.

I can only speculate on the thought process of a person who would carry a pistol in the open in public (unless it were part of his job), because I am not one who would. I would have thought that concealed carry would be more desirable.

Actually there was a Bill in Committee that would enable mental professionals to tell the FBI? My patient can’t have Guns . But its not inline with either parties politics so it won’t pass.

Needs of the many would outweigh the rights of the few or the one. Why would anybody want someone with mental problems to have the right to have a Gun? They need to go explain the importance of their position at a Sandy Hook school.

We need to start THINKING about the costs of our Rights. Just tired of the Knee Jerk reactions from both sides.

I don’t disagree with you in principle. I suspect the fear is in the potential for abuse in implementation. If someone was seeing a mental health care professional who for some reason used their judgement and reported the patient as unstable and that got out, it could ruin a person’s life, especially if he wasn’t really a danger in the first place.

So then people, knowing this could happen to them, might be inhibited from seeing a councilor and getting help for their mental problems, etc...

I’m not saying we shouldn’t have that layer of protection somehow. I’m just saying I can see how it can become sticky in practice.

Only FBI would know they run background checks don’t they? They just say yes or no. Another problem why do they get Back Logged? Need more funding. Another law thats passed and not enforced because it won’t get Law Makers re-elected, No Pork. That’s why I question the need for a lot of the Laws.
