Visited a fairly new subdivision yesterday and out of six houses in one section, three of them are occupied by police officers and their families. Who all work different shifts and park in their driveways, now that’s what I call safety.

I live on a street with 3 cops as well.

I’ve only got one where I currently live, hah.

On the next block I street park where the sheriff and the town’s chief of police live.

I think Fulton County near Atlanta has a program where officers who work in the city are given a tax break to live in the community. It has resulted in some clusters of officers leaving near by. I think it is a good program.

Actually that is a good idea - not only is there the crime deterrence factor, but it also means that the officers are more likely to be involved in their community, know their neighbors, and not necessarily see them as the enemy.

I live in a neighbourhood with a bunch of retired Hells Angels

hah

I don’t know about that. My parents live on a street with two cops:

That’s an excellent idea!

Why don’t they just hire officers that already live in the community?
![]() 12/29/2016 at 16:14 |

ehhh, I very highly doubt any of these guys would do something like that.
![]() 12/29/2016 at 16:15 |

I’d rather live in your neighborhood.
![]() 12/29/2016 at 16:15 |

That would be preferable, yes. But, I’m guessing that that tax break would be available to officers that already live there, too, no?
![]() 12/29/2016 at 16:19 |

It’s at least as safe as one with cops

I live in rural Montana, we all have huge guns and know how to use them.
![]() 12/29/2016 at 16:25 |
|
Well this is also in a part of the country where nearly everybody has a gun, hah.
![]() 12/29/2016 at 16:28 |

It’s just part of our culture, and many city folk don’t understand it. Even the hippies have guns here, gotta eat you know.

Kind of like farmersonly.com?

I think it is part of greater plan to revitalize cities and their close in communities. They are also working to get officers who grew up in the community as well.

Perceived safety. If someone wanted to enact revenge for an arrest/whatever, you’re in a dangerous spot. Not to mention there’s more than a few sleazy cops out there...
![]() 12/29/2016 at 16:57 |

Not sure I could live in a place like that. Don’t you guys also get a fuckton of snow?
![]() 12/29/2016 at 16:59 |
|
Yeah, I think you win. Great people to have as friends, I’m sure.
![]() 12/29/2016 at 17:04 |

That doesn’t make any sense.
None of them are sleazy in the slightest.

The Hells Angels know they’ll probable go to jail if theu kill someone. Not so with the cops.
![]() 12/29/2016 at 17:13 |

I would hope so, but there would be no need for the tax breaks if they were hiring people who already live in the city.
![]() 12/29/2016 at 17:17 |

Also no one screws with houses or cars around here on the off chance that an old HA connected guy owns it, or a friend of theirs
![]() 12/29/2016 at 17:17 |
|
I mean I don’t know any of them, but I know people who have them as uncles or parents family friends...
![]() 12/29/2016 at 17:33 |

Except that it could encourage people already living in the city to apply for that job, rather than a security job or a job for a different department.
![]() 12/29/2016 at 18:45 |

I guess. PDs generally pay more and have much better benefits (healthcare, pension) than security companies, so you wouldn’t really need a tax break as an incentive. I have friends that left jobs as federal level private security contractors for PDs because the bennies were better.

Yes, there is a fuck-ton of snow here these days. But the summers, oh man, the summers are amazing.

Thank god for the internet, back in the old days you would have to ride your horse to town and look around for a female of mating age.

Safe, until you inadvertently piss one of them off.
