I know several people who probably have multiple pairs of shoes costing that much or more. Shoes are like cars, they can be as cheap or expensive asyou want, coming to baffling array of styles, and those who are not into them have a hard time understanding the tendencies of those who are.

A bit further in the article, we see that resellers are selling for around $4,000.
I was pretty paranoid about keeping my white Stan Smiths clean - I don’t think I could wear sneakers like that without going insane (and yes, I know that these will just end up being unworn collectors items).

Kids fight over these?
![]() 12/18/2016 at 19:39 |

Nobody will get beat up.
The only kids that want these, can’t afford them.

Shoe ‘collectors’ ??? You collect baseball cards. You collect Hot Wheels. You collect sculpture. But shoes?
Fuck me running.
![]() 12/18/2016 at 19:46 |

What kind of dumbass spends $720+ on a single pair of shoes?
![]() 12/18/2016 at 19:51 |

I definitely don’t understand shoe obsession/collecting but once I put it into the same mindset as any other collection (cars, stamps, coins, etc) it made more sense.
![]() 12/18/2016 at 19:53 |
|
Precisely this.

Meh, I have quite a bit more than $700 worth of adornment sitting on my ring finger most days. I don’t think shoes are a remarkably dumb expenditure. To each their own.

People who love sneakers or people who have the issue of which plane they should take out of the hangar.
![]() 12/18/2016 at 19:56 |

The second I can get.
I’ve got a friend who used to collect Jordans. Never wore 85% of them.
![]() 12/18/2016 at 19:57 |

But you wear your ring every day, one pair of remarkably expensive shoes on the other hand.
![]() 12/18/2016 at 19:58 |

I don’t understand people who collect shoes, but I guess there is a thing for everyone.

I’ve got a Tag Heuer on my wrist, doesn’t make $700 shoes any more sensical.

Not necessarily, we can’t wear any rings in the plants I work at, and I definitely don’t wear any of my more valuable heirloom jewelry on a daily basis. Plenty of people also drop well over $1000 on a dress that only gets worn on one day, not to mention tailoring, undergarments, special occasion shoes, and more jewelry. I know people who spend more on their bicycles than I did on my last motorcycle.

Shoes are more sensible than watches as far as the hierarchy of needs is concerned. But whatever floats your boat!

It should make it more relatable.

I’d fight a kid for these

I trust Nike. My MSRP $120 Pegasus 33 Jungle Packs’s and my MSRP $100 Free RN ULTD’s feel pretty nice.
![]() 12/18/2016 at 20:38 |

This from a company who still has contracters in Vietnam whose workers work in deplorable conditions to make shoes that are nowhere near worth what we have to pay for them. I’m sorry, but fuck Nike. Actually no, not sorry. Phil Knight is a garbage human being.
![]() 12/18/2016 at 20:39 |

Nobody’s buying these for their kid to wear to school or for their arch support. They’re a collector’s item pure and simple.
![]() 12/18/2016 at 21:23 |
|
That is exactly the sort of thinking a non-car person uses when they look at anybody with a car costing six or seven figures.
![]() 12/18/2016 at 21:45 |

I dont understand it. A pair of really nice leather hand made shoes maybe even custom made isnt $700
![]() 12/18/2016 at 21:51 |
|
Yeah, like $300 seems reasonable. But that much?
![]() 12/18/2016 at 22:12 |
|
Paying $700 for some shoes I can see, maybe some handmade Italian leather dress shoes, but not some Nikes.
![]() 12/18/2016 at 22:13 |
|
Your rings will far outlast a pair of Nikes and you can hand them to family members as heirlooms. I would argue not so with a pair of Nikes.

Curious infinitive.

Get mugged, yes.
![]() 12/18/2016 at 22:15 |

A fool and his money...
![]() 12/18/2016 at 22:16 |

No apologies. And as I said in the post, they probably have little in the way of arch support or torsional stability.
![]() 12/18/2016 at 22:16 |

Kids are jumped for their shoes all the time and they cost way less than $720.
![]() 12/18/2016 at 22:21 |

For some people, a million-dollar car is a Miura. For others it’s a 918. Different strokes for different folks.

Kids get mugged over their shoes?
![]() 12/18/2016 at 22:51 |

It’s just frustrating that in 2016 companies can still get away with bs like that. I’ve only owned a few pairs of Nike shoes and none of them were particularly comfortable. If they’re like any other Nike shoe, they’ll be falling apart in a year or less even with light use.

You should go see Flight Club.

There are dedicated web forums to sneakers and the buying and selling of same. Out of production sneakers that are in high demand can go for ludicrous prices.
![]() 12/19/2016 at 08:05 |
|
Yes, they definitely do.
![]() 12/19/2016 at 08:58 |

And people of all ages get mugged over the $700 phones we carry around.
![]() 12/19/2016 at 10:07 |

It’s true. That’s why I don’t carry one.

Oy ...

its rubber nylon and crap. STUPID.
I Give A Damn ‘bout Your Car(shoes) But Then That Would Be
If It Was Considered A Classic Before The Drastic Change In Production When Cars(shoes) Were Metal(leather) Instead Of Plastic Value
Is What I’m Talking About
