My late grandpa’s soldering iron’s handle has found its way onto my Miata with the help of a 10x1.25 nut glued into the bottom (hole enlarged with a step bit). Test fit it on the Miata and it doesn’t knock into the radio like I thought it might and is surprisingly ergonomic, but it’s ludicrously light-weight. Probably going to fill it with ball bearings and glue (so they don’t rattle) to add weight
Comparison with my previous shift knob, the stock knob from my 1991 Miata

Lol, 5-speed knob on a 6-speed, have you gotten any looks for engaging 6th when people think you’re going to grind reverse?
Also, bitchin’ handle.

Who had 3-4 months in the “how long before Jake starts making silly mods to his way too nice Miata” poll?

A shift knob is an accessory, not a mod.

No but I got a lot of people wondering why the car is going 4k at 60mph until I tell them there’s another gear.

Not a day late with the shifter mod. If it wasn’t done jkm would have sent you a dildo shifter from the front page ads.

I like how this turned out. Nice job.

This happened a few times in my old Civic, for some reason the previous owner had a 4 speed knob on a 5 speed trans. I left it cuz I liked the shape. But when people would drive it they’d get to 55 and be like “how can you handle it Revving this high all time.”

Where did you get the adapter?

It’s just a nut from Lowe’s. Miatas use a metric 10x1.25 thread pitch. I then silicone’d it into place.

Fitting a five gear into the six gear is a different idea but the biggest difficulty would be if anyone else tries to drive the car.well that’s perfect for my https://hitthegrade.com/ blog visitors thanks..
