In regards to the VR6, it kinda makes sense...I mean its total BS as to the history of the V motor, but yeah.

V-1 and V-2, designed for situations where there’s no room for a conventional engine at all. STICK A ROCKET UP IT’S ASS

That’s what you get for trying to oversimplify things.

Thats Volvo... but the second part stands.

That’s what I get for not embiggening. Saw a circle with a line through it and didn’t push my brain any further :)

One might be able to argue that the V6 came to prominence largely thanks to FWD, as it is difficult(but not impossible) to cram an I6 into a FWD platform. But claiming that FWD is the primary driver behind V engines is absurd.

My transverse 5-banger says “okay”

At least Volvo was smart enough to use a transverse layout unlike this Audi Coupe GT:
That’s a longitudinal I5 in front of the front wheels in a FWD car.

We’ve owned two. Know all about them. (not Coupe GTs, but 5-cyl Audis... an ‘89 100 Quattro and a ‘92 fwd 90.) You young people... jeeesh... I bet you don’t even remember using pay phones....

My high school had a pay phone. It just called 911 when you took it off the hook.
I didn’t know you had old Audis. There’s a red coupe I see from time to time here on campus. It’s in rough shape cosmetically but it looks like a perfect rally car candidate.

Your Volvo, in human form:
And now I’m wondering what the most cylinders, inline, transverse mount, in a car, is. I know Ford’s done 8 in a Tempo, as found elsewhere in this post’s comments...
