One of my profs said that, following a trip to Firestone to get an oil and tire change last week, the service people forgot to put the plug back in or failed to do so correctly. Essentially, all the oil came out of his wife’s van while she was driving, causing the engine to seize and totaling the vehicle. Firestone apparently accepted full responsibility and Firestone’s insurance has already covered the cost of the van. My professor told us last week that he was choosing between a 2017 Golf GTI and a 2017 A3 Quattro as the replacement. Today he said he’s picked the GTI because he had a GTI in the 90's and loved it. Following our test in class we voted on whether he should get the car in black or white. I voted black, and that ended up winning. So now I know of at least 3 Jalop professors (other two have a CTS-V coupe and a 2012 Camaro SS convertible with a stick).

Are you an engineering student?

I found out one of my professors was Jalop by racing against her at an AutoX. She has a boxster s.
She’s also an ex-F14 tomcat pilot

My history/gov professor drove a 2013 Cayman S
My English teacher has a 2015 Ecoboost mustang with recaros and a manual
My other English teacher drove a Forester... But her husband has a sonic blue S60R!
I had some pretty cool ones!

It seemed like a lot of engineering professors are car people, that’s why. Additionally, it seems like there are a lot of engineers on oppo.

Firestone is the worst. They dented my hood and refused to take care of it

Ah, gotcha. Yeah there are a lot of engineers/engineering students here. But this guy is in the M field of STEM so I suppose he might fall under that umbrella.

You should dent their hood

He said he’s very happy with him because of how good they were about the whole thing and how quickly and adequately they compensated him. If it’s all true I’m impressed too.
Sorry about your hood, though. I would be furious. I always turn my dash cam on when I send my car to any shop (apart from the one our family friend owns, which we use quite frequently).

Once of my elementary school teachers was a massive Porsche enthusiast. Between her and her husband, they had like three of em.
But alas, I was too young to remember which models.

One of my profs had an E63 AMG, after he sold his 997.1 Turbo S. . .
Another, had a 911 Cup Car.
These guys both had very successfull careers prior to teaching thougj.

Yeah, there are tons of profs here who have done quite well for themselves outside just their teaching salaries. I’m keen to see what else shows up in the faculty lots.

My Thermo II professor has a panamera and loves his porsche hat as well. Also my strengths of material professor from last semester that looks like jonah hill has a diesel chevy luv and a 1978 ford pickup ranger trim with the graphic “BIG MOMMA”.

My research advisor when I was an undergrad would’ve fit in well here (he passed on a few years back). Back in ‘04-06 he had a 2nd-gen Prelude Si, a 5th-gen Prelude SH, and a Piper of some sort. He took me flying once and we went for several rides in the newer Prelude. Black on black manual. He said when he found out they were discontinuing the Prelude he ran to the dealer and got the most loaded one they had and planned to keep it forever.

I had an Iranian physics professor that drove an El Camino and a first gen Civic.

Firestone is consistently shit. They didn’t use a torque wrench on my dad’s Tundra, only an impact wrench at full power, so the lugs were *fused* to the wheels and we’re almost round. We took it back in and they replaced the lugs, but only used a torque wrench on the side we could see from the window. So it was the same story again, but only on half the truck. They’re pretty consistently awful.
