Pet peeve after the jump so People don’t have to read it if they don’t want to. Genesis G80 Sport for your time:

Kinja'd!!!

Why does every stoner act like their quest to legalize weed is some sort of Holy quest? I love fire, but smoking is a disgusting habit. Weed smells horrific. I understand it’s a solid pain reliever, and prescription use is fine. But don’t act like you’re saving the world because you don’t wanna get in trouble for getting high.

Full Disclosure: I hate weed and the people who use it need to understand that they have to shower after using that shit. However I get where their frustration comes from. Look at the shit that is legal and illegal and then try to explain how weed is worse than cigarettes or alcohol. Also while we’re on the subject how is prostitution only legal when you film it?

If you have to shower after using weed, you’re probably doing it wrong.

I’m not saying those things aren’t bad, but That’s a runaway mentality. Basically it’s “other bad things are illegal, so we shouldn’t ban these other bad things”. Not a direction I think we should try to go in.

Have you met one that isn’t on a soap box about legalization? I’ve yet to.

Also, I think in the eyes of the law, porn is a sacrifice. Basically someone makes and distributes a video, and that stops X number of prostitution transactions because then horny people can just sit at home and whack it.

All I can say is that the prohibition of weed has failed miserably here but our government still ensists on it. Millions of Euros and police force wasted while people still consume it.

I don’t do any sort of drugs myself (even “good” ones if I can avoid it), but the way I see things, it is the government’s job to make sure products are advertised truthfully as being good or bad. It is not up to the government to force the decision to buy and use only the good things. When you try to do that, you just create black markets and all of the shit that goes with a business whose entire operation is outside of the law.

TL;DR: government should lead the horse to water, but it shouldn’t have the power to make it drink.

It isn’t about the weed always, though, its about the government making unilateral decisions about what someone is allowed to do with their own body. You can drink and get totally smashed, because that is your prerogative and infringes on no other persons personal liberties. However there are often laws against public drunkenness as you are then disturbing the peace and can be unpredictable (and dangerous) to others, violating their personal liberties.

Weed (and other drugs) should be treated similarly. Its not some god-given miracle cure for everything and sure some people can become “addicted” to it in the same fashion as alcohol or sex, but legality opens the doors to getting help (I’m referring to harder addictive drugs now) without fear of being tossed in jail for trying to break a habit.

Here too. If I didn’t know people who use I probably wouldn’t have been able to tell a difference in day to day life.

Prevention and information instead of fear is the way to go imho. Legalization and liberalization is the key, it certainly works in many countries and some US states.

The problem is that there’s no truth in advertising. Look at alcohol. Every commercial makes it looks like booze will fix every problem you have in your life. There have been a few PSAs here about drinking and driving and the like, but most advertising for alcohol is still overwhelmingly positive.

There are a LOT of people that are killed by drunk drivers every year, even though drinking and driving is illegal. This is taking another step towards having more materials in peoples’ hands that can cause the same.

Have you ever gotten high? There is little to no similarity between a marijuana high and being drunk. Being TIRED is more dangerous than driving high, though I don’t think anybody should do either.

I can’t say I’ve seen any alcohol commercials recently that even remotely do that. They usually just show people having a good time in an appropriate setting to drink alcohol followed by a “Drink responsibly” warning. Drinking and driving is really a separate issue; it’s not the job of liquor makers to ensure that people don’t do stupid things with alcohol just like it’s not auto-makers’ job to make sure people don’t do stupid things with their cars.

As for truth in advertising, sure, they try to get away with what they can, but they also get nailed by lawsuits when somebody finds out otherwise.

I’m with you. When a stoner just wants to be off his face, ain’t no noble quest.
