So I want to get a pair of REALLY high end track boots next year, and I’m down between the Sidi Mag-1 and the Sidi Vortice. Does anyone have any experience with either of them? I’m leaning towards the Vortice because they are, as per the site, totally rebuildable. (all plastic parts have available spares I guess) And that sounds REALLY attractive. Both are about the same price. They will be used for track riding and ‘spirited’ street riding (Sorry Vlad :) )

Sidi Vortice

Well I think the Mag-1 looks cooler. And that’s really the extent of my knowledge on the subject.

Morning Pete! I personally have AStars, but I see a lot of happy folks with those two. I would also lean towards “rebuildable” because even though the knee pucks get all the glory, your toe sliders will also see some wear. Highly recommend either trying them on in person (remember to check in riding position as well as normal walking around to see how miserable they are if you ride somewhere and don’t bring a change of shoes) or ordering from a site with a really good return/exchange policy.
Hope that helps!

Priority #1 next year is track day, early in the season.
Tuesday heading out for more dirt biking!

I have the Sidi Vertigo. They’re close to what you’re looking at, cost ~$300 when I got them. Biggest difference is that they have one zipper on the inside with a velcro flap, instead of the whole-back-flips-down style. Have had them for ~5 yrs, and re-soled once. They get treated w/ Lexol conditioner once a year, and that’s it.
Depending on what rearsets you’re using, you’ll need to plan on getting the soles replaced every 3 yrs or so. I use Woodcraft and they chewed through the sole pretty badly, right under the ball of the foot section. Cost was ~$100 from resole.com.

how do you find the comfort? fit okay? (like, if I normally wear a 9, should I go a size up or down?) do you find you need better venting? Im looking at the air versions for the boots too.

Comfort is excellent once they get broken in. I wear relatively thick calf-high socks, from the local sporting goods store. You need the non-cotton style. I have the non-perforated boot, because that’s what was on sale when I got them. With the vents open ventilation is good enough. My feet do get sweaty, but like everywhere else they’re fine when you’re on-track, but get ridiculously hot as soon as you pull off and there’s no air moving.
I followed the Sidi sizing chart and they fit perfect.

I had the vortice and they didn’t seem very protective. The sole easily bent up and down far enough to break feet

Do you have a recommendation for beginner boots?

Alpinestarts SMX-3s are pretty nice. They are what I use for day to day riding.
