At least I’m pretty sure it is. I’ve never seen one of these before, or at least never noticed. They look so similar to the regular sedans

The first gen Mazda 6 was built as a sedan, wagon, and hatchback (as pictured here). A lot of people don’t know about the hatch, because it looks so similar to the sedan. The dead givaway for spotting one is the rear window wiper.

Yup. The lift back had a rear wiper. Slightlymore sloped d pillar IIRC, too but you basically had to see the two side by side to tell.

Yeah I forgot to take a picture more directly from the side, it did look slightly more sloped

That’s neat! I never knew that these existed.

I only learned about them last year or so, and assumed they were never sold in Canada until I saw this one

I looked long and hard at getting one of these (the lift back) some years ago, but never did. Good car.

CHMSL also gives it away. 5-door had it in the hatch, the sedan’s are in the back window or in the spoiler.

I like the wagon a little more though.

As do I. The liftback intrigues me because it seems so practical and European, and makes me wish more sedans had hatches.

Cool! Were they available in the US?

I think so, it would be weird if they were in Canada and not the US. Not unheard of, but strange

Grandpa has one. Ride sucks, interior is full of rattles, nice transmission.

Yes! I had one and I loved it. It could fit a lot of stuff with the rear seats folded down. People were always surprised when they found out it was a liftback

I liked my 6i hatch. Decent, fun little car! Tons of room in the hatch, especially with the seats folded down.

Oh, well that’s not very pleasant

Also premature rust issues (MN car). Thoroughly disappointed after having a ‘98 626 in the family for 16 years.

Yeah, Mazda really knew how to rust em in the mid 2000s. My friend had a 2003 Protege5 a couple years ago that had a hole in the floor and the rear bumper falling off from that
