I found this oh so classy British Racing Green XJ6 parked next to me when I went out to lunch today. After I took this picture I realized it has two fuel filler caps. What gives? Are there two tanks? Is one just for decoration leading to many accidental pull-ups at the wrong side of the gas pump?
Then I got in my car and noticed a bird shat a giant purple turd on my windshield.

Yes they do.

Dual tanks.

One is for fuel, the other is for Lucas smoke fluid.
Seriously though, they are twin 11 gallon tanks. There should be a switch to select which tank you want.
You never know when you’ll need the extra capacity to flee the horde

One was for fine scotch until the nanny state intervened. Now they’re both used for gasoline.

Yeah they had two tanks. Also 70s-90s F150/250/350s had dual tanks.

That’s incredible. Perfect for a cannonball. Or not actually.

If only the engineers who designed the scotch tank would’ve collaborated with the folks at GM who came up with the magnetic glovebox minibar in the 1957 Cadillac Eldorado.

Indubitably.

I owned at 91 F150 and a 92 F350 that had dual tanks. I always liked having two tanks for some reason.

Sweet! Those trucks are badass. Did you ever have any issues with dual tanks? I’ve read they can be problematic

ah, remember the days when these were what counted as “cupholders?”

ya
they’re symmetrical inside and out

I never had any real issues, but I also only owned each truck for about a year. I did hear about folks having issues. The only special thing I remember was that the fuel gauge was optimistic on one of the tanks on the 91 F150, so I always made sure I used that tank first.

my ‘77 k15 has dual tanks. The switching mechanism has to be really well grounded, so rust has to be kept at bay in that spot. Otherwise, pretty fool proof.

Yes. These things were built for long distance cruising.

Double the fuel pumps and screens to go bad.

He mentions that the XJS has 2 tanks in the Harrys Garage vid for the car
