Built in Italy, flown to Michigan, and shipped to dealers from there, IIRC. What could go wrong?

Built in Michigan at the Hamtramck Assembly Plant. The bodies were made by Pininfarina in Italy and then flown to Michigan to be mated to the rest of the car.

I think it was even more complicated than that. Weren’t US-made subframes flown to Italy to be incorporated into the body? Then, the finished body shell was flown to the US for the final assembly. Two trips across the Atlantic in special 747 freighters. Obviously, profitably was not a major concern for GM, though they did insist on pinching pennies on other areas.
