Saab 9000

It’s on the same platform as the 164 but the car in your photo is a Saab 9000.

So I’m doubly right and also completely wrong

That’s um... correct.

I did not know they shared the same platform.

Also the Lancia Thema and Fiat Croma

Fun fact: the Alfa 164 was the heaviest of the 9000/164/Thema/Croma siblings and is the only vehicle without side-airbags to ever earn an “Acceptable” side impact rating from Euro-NCAP. Open and close the doors on a 164 just one time and you’ll understand why.

Neat - didn’t know the 9000 was ever sold here unless ir’s an import...?

Don’t think it was ever sold here. I’ve seen the 9000 on Top Gear, but have never seen it here in person in Canada!

They were sold in Canada, just not very many. If their distribution is anything like it is in the States, I’d expect something like a third of them to be in Vancouver (and there are two on Craigslist there right now!). Growing up in Seattle, I would never have guessed that they were at all rare.
