I decided to do the oil change on my wife’s 2010 Fit myself today. Usually She has her mechanic wrench on it her car’s. It what she’s always done and it gives her peace of mind.
How ever it was 100 miles over due, and we’ve making a 200 mile trip on Tuesday so I wanted it to get done. I learned three things two good, one not to good.
1. There is no plastic in the way of the oil drain plug, or filter. A proper oil change is still a one bolt job. I like that.
2. The Oil capacity, weight, and drain plug torque spec were all found in the owner’s manual. Nice to find all that without a google search!
3. Our Fit is a “Sport” model which means it has some “Mad Tyte” areo work. Which means You can’t fit a set or typical ramps under the front bumper. I had to had some 1x4" to the ramp so that the bumper wouldn’t drag.
Here’s a cool Fit. It’s silly, I like it.

I always change my own oil because I can’t trust anyone else to do it. I think I did the pickup in 15 minutes last time. The Vibe takes longer because I’m paranoid about a car that actually cost money.

I know how that is. I triple checked everything in the Fit. Then Ran it out side for ten minutes, then let it sit for another ten. Just to make sure there wasn’t anything leaking. The car has just under 45,000 miles which mean it has about 1/4 as many miles as most of the vehicles I’ve owned. It/s weird working on something that has so much more life left in it. Plus we do owe money on it still, so there’s that too.

Yeah we have 73k on the Vibe.. I’ve never had a car with such low miles. We want it to last another 10 years, minimum.

My wife drove her 2001 Cavalier for 6 years. from 120k to 165,000. So I’m geussing she’ll still have the Fit when our childern go to middle school. Also we don’t have any kids.
