It’s looking like a new hood might be on the menu

Hard to say. Knowing how they operate, I think those guys will try everything they can to keep that from happening.

FM’s website is sometimes a little hard to navigate, but
is a link to the ND V8 conversion FAQ page of sorts. Cannot wait to see this thing move.

I would think so...but...I also think that Mazda worked some magic to get a hoodline that low and that block of wood and front of the intake runner suggest that it may be too much magic for the LS to cope with.

This was from their post on Facebook. It didn’t have much else to it besides that.

Found it! They blog most of their builds.

I know it’s a tall (and/or wide) order, but I want an ND with the GT350R’s engine. And suspension setup. And wheels.
Basically I want a smaller, lighter, road-legal, GT350R roadster.

They just prefer the LS motors because of their compactness. I’d love for there to be a smaller, light weight, high revving V8 that can easily be put into a Miata. But at the moment I can’t think of any acceptable candidates.

Which is one of my chief complaints with the LS, it’s all too easy to be the go-to. I want to see more imagination put in, like a Viper V10 or PowerStroke/Cummins diesel in a sports car (properly tuned to match) or family sedan, a Ferrari MR drivetrain crammed in a FF economy car. Had I oodles and gobs of money and my old Volvo back, I'd find a way to cram a McLaren 3.8L turbo V8 in there, of only for giggles.

V8 some of them. 2JZ the rest.
