Why hasn’t anyone done a true head-to-head comparison of an R32 skyline with a similar-era Ford Sierra Cosworth.
Both were turbo 2.5L inline sixes. Right? And I think you could get both in 2 door, 4 door or FR or AWD configurations.

The Cosworth only had a 4-cylinder 2.0 Turbo, but you’re right about everything else. It’s an interesting comparison, as far as I know they never raced each other in any series?

Just watched the 1992 Top Gear on the Cossy. Very interesting.

Similar physical size, similar horsepower & specs. Designed to go fast on a reasonable budget. Seats four/five. Both had AD varients (Sierra XR4x4.)
I live in Europe. It shouldn’t be too hard to find two owners of these cars and a Stig-alike to take them around Spa.

On paper, they are pretty close (warning, this site might kill off your productivity):

Sierra (2WD) vs GTR happened for a few years in Australian Touring Cars. I don’t know of any Sapphire (4wd saloon version of the Sierra) vs GTR match ups though - the Sapphire was more of a rally weapon than a track one.

Of course, should’ve thought they met in Aussie racing. The 4wd Cosworth was made for rallying, mainly because the 2WD Cosworth was a lot slower than the Lancia Delta Integrale and the Toyota Celica on loose surfaces, and the XR4x4 was too heavy and lacking power.

Probably because while they’re similar on paper, the skyline made at least 50% more power, had much higher production numbers, and came with electronic torque split differentials.
I don’t even know if you could get a Sierra RS Cosworth 2-door in AWD form (I know the 4x4 was 4 doors) and if so it was an exceptionally rare one compared to the ~40,000 R32s that were sold.

Ooh. Is that on YouTube?
