... That the Oldsmobile website still exists.
![]() 01/25/2016 at 14:15 |

Yea, most shipwrecks are still on the sea floor, too.

Whoa - that was the first dinosaur to die. Wonder about Mercury ... and yeah - still there .
![]() 01/25/2016 at 14:20 |

I thought there would be some sort of message like “Yeah. Oldsmobile isn’t a thing anymore”
![]() 01/25/2016 at 14:21 |

Well they still service Oldsmobiles.
![]() 01/25/2016 at 14:22 |

Would it just be at a regular GM dealer?
![]() 01/25/2016 at 14:23 |
|
Yup.
![]() 01/25/2016 at 14:25 |

Yup, so are all the other dead GM brands. And they all have a slightly blurry picture as the background for the home page.
You think they’d be able to at least honor the dead brands with an in focus picture.

And it’s not even of their best car. It’s their horrible SUV thing.

Boom. This is the official website from 1996.

Yeah, at least Pontiac and Saturn have Sky and Solstice.

I found a picture of their webmaster:

The big question is, take the Mercury to a Ford dealer...or a Lincoln dealer?
Meh, Lincoln probably has nicer seats...

OBVIOUS REPLY FROM ME:

Yeah probably shorter lines at the Lincoln dealer also.

I was cordially invited to test drive a Black Label.
I will be doing that soon.

Like this?
![]() 01/25/2016 at 15:16 |

Amazing.
![]() 01/25/2016 at 15:19 |
|
Yeah. Someone else posted that as well.
![]() 01/25/2016 at 15:42 |

Yep... and also www.pontiac.com , eaglecars.com and hummer.com are still around too.
Plymouth.com takes you to the Plymouth Stainless Steel Tubing company.
Oh and Buell.com is still alive too...

I normally avoid scotch that says “blended” on it.
But you do know what the Lincoln Black Label is right?
![]() 01/25/2016 at 15:59 |

Well, I mean, I AM the Mercury guy.
Also in one of the saddest projects in my career...I actually built Mercury is no longer in business websites for the international markets.
![]() 01/25/2016 at 16:01 |

I posted this too. I’m like THE Mercury guy.
I told Daily Drives a Dragon one of the saddest moments of my career was building some of the Mercury Shut Down pages for International Markets.
Pieces of my soul probably died...

Johnnie Walker is pretty good stuff.
I did not know what it meant for Lincolns until I looked it up.
![]() 01/25/2016 at 16:21 |

So is http://www.pontiac.com/
![]() 01/25/2016 at 16:37 |
|
They’re doing a great job advertising it.
![]() 01/25/2016 at 16:39 |
|
Oh, and unless you’re really high up in J Walker, it’s crap in my opinion
![]() 01/25/2016 at 16:43 |
|
That has to feel bad.
![]() 01/25/2016 at 17:11 |

Oldsmobile, Plymouth, Saturn, Mercury, Hummer, Pontiac, Saab ... what did I miss?
![]() 01/25/2016 at 20:33 |
|
I was hoping for more of a history lesson on that site. Something that would highlight some successful cars through the years, something about motorsport successes (there are some, right?), and that kind of stuff.. but there’s nothing.
![]() 01/25/2016 at 22:00 |
|
Nope. It’s a grainy pic of one of their SUVs and a GM dealer locater.
![]() 01/26/2016 at 06:00 |

Found the two that work at the service call center.....
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Yeah imagine working on the project that shuts down one of your favorite brands
![]() 01/26/2016 at 09:17 |

I think that’s it, anything else was sold - Jag and Land Rover for example. (And I think a lot of thought Jag would be on that list, I love Ford but man they didn’t know how to build a Jaguar)
![]() 01/26/2016 at 09:17 |

Many tears.

I’ll tell you one thing - had a talk with a car guy at a mid-90s who had a new XJ. Say what you will about Ford, but the only reason Jags got way more reliable at that time was Ford. Ford did a lot of things wrong back then, but they could build a fucking wiring harness that worked. They showed Mr. Lucas the door.
![]() 01/26/2016 at 13:03 |
|
Oh yeah reliability got better, but the cars were just....missing something. I wonder if they were just afraid to build a car nicer than a Lincoln at the time. I will say though that I turned down buying a V8 LS because it’s all Jaguar underneath. didn’t trust it.
![]() 01/26/2016 at 16:03 |
|
Rented a V6 LS a long time ago - seats with A/C and a decent highway presence, it was among the better cars I’ve rented.
![]() 01/26/2016 at 16:11 |
|
I was close to buying it. Really close. I was worried about repair bills (as I was trying to get away from repair bills and as it would be a daily driver, I knew the FWD Milan would be better in the snow here in Michigan.
If I just got to drive an LS V8 that would be have been awesome, but being responsible for it is a whole different ball game.
In 60,000+ miles all I’ve done on the Milan that isn’t standard maintenance is replaced one brake caliper that was starting to seize.

they should give a 442 error
