Invented right here on Jalopnik, by an Opponaut.

If I remember rightly, it was invented by an incoherent Craigslist post. I wonder if thet guy knows what he started...

I think it was a Camaro, specifically with the horn and arm rest removed, and said Opponaut offered a reason for removing the horn and armrest, because racecar.

“Because Racecar” started on January 26, 2011 on jalopnik.com’s off-topic forum “Opposite Lock.” The actual phrase came from a Craigslist posting for a Mazda MX-3, where in the description, the seller said the car has been modified “because race car.”

I remember that ad. I really like that tiny V6.

The ad’s wrong though. It’s a 1.8.

Yea, I know. I’ve wrenched on a few K-series in my day, albeit larger ones.

These were a “popular” swap motor into protege/5s. Short block v6. A few guys slapped turbos on em. Talk about a sleeper

I’ve always wanted to put one in the front (or back, perhaps) of a Locost or other DIY project.

He is Nigel Corner. The crash occurred during the 1998 Goodwood Revival race. He did indeed survive.
Fun fact: Alain De Cadenet is the driver who tangled with Corner. After this occurred, De Cadenet’s car was struck by another car, this one driven by one Sir Stirling Moss.

Thank goodness he survived, and what a rather odd chain of events.
