The Champagne Shitbox? Car I got the girlfriend for christmas. 1997 Saturn SL2 manual. A month later and an oil leak from the valve cover of the stupid 1.9l DOHC engine is still stumping me. I ordered a new gasket when Permatex Valve Maker failed to seal it adequately, but now I can’t get all of the Permatex off of the plastic. Sigh.

I have a buddy who’s dad was a Saturn Master Tech and has one exactly like this wanna give me a list of the problems and see if he can help?

Yes, trying to accelerate from a stop and keeping it oppo for 50-100ft is fun and also a challenge at the same time when you’re trying to stay in the lane. Its also daily life for me after fresh snow fall.
Of course, I do have a slight advantage being that my car has a crappy viscous LSD setup and winters. All I can really do is just stop a little better than you might lol.

Giving your girl a crapbox is definitely a recipe for a breakup

Oil leak or not, Saturns don’t die. It might not be the fanciest of cars, but it sure as fuck beats having to rely on someone else or walking.

Saturns do not hold their value, Toyotas do.

Leaky valve cover and a gasket that fits is next to impossible to find (I tried a felpro one, I have some other brand from Rockauto ready to go on as soon as I remove all the Permatex from the cover), and a bad clutch. Other than that it’s actually in decent nick. Bit of an oil leak somewhere from around the pan but it isn’t bad enough to give me worries.

Viscous LSD? Do I spy an NA6 Miata? I have a silverstone ‘91 with the viscous LSD. It’s the only option on the car other than A/C, lol
