Not because I am a douche celebrity who needs an army vehicle to drive to get clothes but because of the 3 lockers and I sat in one and loved how the doors shut with a deep mechanical thud. Also expeditions and camping.

I approve of this. I want a long wheelbase with a V12 from the S600 and not stupid amg wheels

I want the six-wheel one mainly because it really doesn’t seem to give a fuck what it drives on. It’s absolutely ridiculous and stupid, but I love it.

Then get a proper one!

Yes, G65 with no low profile rubber.

I can’t :( they only sell the stupid fancy ones here.
I wouldn’t say no to that or either of these

Close the doors on my Saab 96. Like a safe. I actually kind of hate to think how much they must weigh now.

I want one too, and given the choice I probably would stick with the celebrity-spec G550 or G63 that we get here. I’d skip the diesels and such.

Where? USA? Canada has the diesels and have been made since the late 70's. I see a few nice ones here in SF they got from Canada. Someone I know who is friends with my Merc mechanic runs the G Wagon Preserve. They are good people to ask advice from:

I also love the sound the doors make when they shut and I want one too!

We don’t actually have the diesels in Canada. Our import laws are more lax (15 instead of 25 years), so we see more of those than there are in the states – but Canada never saw a single new diesel G-wagen.

I saw my first one in the wild just this weekend... that grill makes a statement I can’t begin to argue with.

The guy I know has a swap kit, maybe they did that with them.

I believe it was originally (over)engineered for the Austrian Army (and why does Austria even have an army after last time?). Overpriced, overengineered, cramped, and sort of pointless, in my opinion. Other Germans have that satisfying thunk.

Iran, actually . but the Australians [not Austrians] were the ones that requested the 6 wheel one.

of course its being driven by a middle aged blonde.

A swap wouldn’t surprise me! Definitely not stock, though, unless it’s an imported G.
While we’re on the subject, the Canadian army
uses diesel G-wagens now
, though those are mil-spec and totally unrelated to anything in M-B showrooms. Still pretty cool.

Enjoy the repair bills.

The doors thump is one thing, but the mechanism is just pure mechanical sex. I'd get one heavily Carfaxd

One more thing to blame the Shah for ....

Can’t complain about that really.

I wanted one of these as a tow vehicle then I decided on a Sprinter because it’s way more practical and I could fit a full-size toolbox and other equipment inside it and can lock it up. Plus they’re fun to drive, and reliable because diesel!
