Tomorrow is the anniversary of the Miracle on the Hudson, when US Airways Capt. Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger and First Officer Jeffrey Skiles ditched their stricken Airbus A320 in the Hudson River. Read about that plane, along with another jet that was meant to land on the water, in tomorrow’s !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! post.

He’s lucky the water was that calm, because a little wave and shit would have hit the turbofan

As it was, the water beat up the plane pretty bad.

Minor correction: Chesley, not Chelsey.
Got to hear these guys talk at Oshkosh a couple years back. Two very humble guys.

Jeppessen made an amusing IFR approach chart to the Hudson river that I’m trying to upload, but it’s not working.

My college overlooks the Hudson, and I was sitting in my dorm room avoiding homework at the time. I remember hearing sirens, which was a common occurrence in the city, but didn’t realize anything unusual happened. Then I logged onto Facebook and realized oh crap, that’s happening a half mile from where I am. I ran the short distance to the waterfront but the passengers/crew were already taken off and the aircraft was surrounded by boats (it being about an hour after it happened).
Oh well, so much for watching history unfold!

Speaking of Hudson, today in 1954 Hudson and Nash Kelvinator combined to form AMC.

Was the same day my brother-in-law was laid to rest. I remember coming home from the cemetery, someone turned on the TV and the scene of passengers being helped out of the plane showed up immediately.
